Does anyone have a recommendation for the best place to source a small fan housing?

A few reproductions around….any of them good?

I appreciate all replies :)

Cheers,

Is this for an original 225mm fan or a '78/'79 SC 226 mm fan ?

I guess it would be the 225mm item but in all honesty Andy I wouldn't have a clue....

...please could you advise on the differences and a good place to source?

I'd assume that a 226mm SC item would work just as well and be easier to source, does it look/work any different?

Cheers,

The main difference between the 2 set-ups is that the earlier 'small' fan as used on the Factory's competition 911's utilised a fan housing with a smaller outer diameter - hence it requires an engine (fan) shroud with with a smaller 'hump' over the fan.

The 'small' fan fitted to '78/'79 SC models utilised a fan housing with the same outer diameter as the std 245mm fans - hence it will fit within an engine (fan) shroud with a std sized 'hump'.

You can use a '78/'79 SC fan with a repro 911R/RSR fan housing but all these parts have become much more difficult to find (at 'sensible' prices anyway !)...

Doesn't Nick Fulljames have a source of repro 'small' fan housings that he uses ?

You have not thought this through have you Darren :- )

You should go and research fans, pully ratios, air flow rates, oil cooling vs air cooling, etc. Set aside a day to do it.

Ian.

Thanks chaps,

It's the smaller racing fan housing I need.

I hadn't planned HB's, a Marelli dizzy or a racing oil filter either but my thinking is fluid Ian! ......initial thought was to use my existing fan housing with a larger clear shroud but can't help myself!

Nick suggested Eleven Parts or EB Motorsport who produce an aluminium reproduction racing fan....just wondered if there was an other source?

Cheers,

Worth checking with Mike (Moore) to see what he used in his car.

I'm sure Dave (Stretch) has done some recent research for his project - but I'm sure you've already asked him !

Anything you buy from Marco Marinello at Elevenparts will make your eyes water (& your wallet bleed !).

You could also send a pm to Oliver (Hussenot) - his friend at SG Racing in Belgium used to make 911R/906-style fan housings.

Dave probably has a NOS housing that he picked up for fifty quid!

Thanks Andy, will do some hunting.

Nah, £75.00 quid.

My ST build will be a car for the road, with the odd track outing. You really need to run your motor at high revs most of the time with the small fan to prevent overheating. Not an issue on a race car for the track but not so good sitting in the Sussex traffic. So standard fan and keep the engine oil cooler as per the 2247 ST motor.

I figured this was a part that Ben Coles should be producing and asked him why he hasn't done so?....

....his response was ....'find me one to copy!'...

Maybe whistling in the wind but thought I'd carry out some market research....

Thanks for the link.

Looks pretty good although shame about the part/casting number. Wonder what material it's cast in?
