By chance I found a company in York that had a set of BKT's someone previously ordered and ended up not wanting....net result they are the right price so they are fine for now Ian. The Continentals will come at the end of the build whenever that my be and I already have a guy wanting the BKT's when I'm done so win-win all round...

Atkinson Vos everytime for the tyres.

I'd order them sooner rather than later because the Continental AS T9 you need for the front are special order & take an age to arrive.

Are the front 16"? If so you need 16x4.50 which are about 45 quid each.

Thanks for the tip re supplier and yes the fronts are 16'....I thought they were 8/24 rear and 4/16 on the front but that must be 4/15' then.. :oops:

I've revised re build times as I'm doing far more than I originally envisaged although to be fair loads needs to be done...seems silly to put it back together with semi knackered parts so I'll repair or replace as required. No wonder Ian's build took some time but the results are peachy...

Started stripping the rear axel ready for removal yesterday, tight as hell but eventually came out. Bearings are fine so will grease up and refit when it's ready. When you turn the inner shaft you can hear the noisy gear/bearing in the g/box so defiantly need to sort that when I eventually open up the g/ box. Just another job to add to the list.

I didn't realise they came with a lubricant information plate or at least mine did. Found it when removing some of the thicker purple paint...

Next job was to remove the R/H axel tube and strip it ready for repair. Out with the engine hoist and straps which made the job very easy in the end. Once off removed the shaft circlip and it tapped out easily enough then off with the brake drum and shoes. Shoes look ok, bearings fine but the oil seals need replacing and years of crud to come off and clean up ready for repair or replacement, once rebuilt I'll tackle the L/H tube.

Easy stuff today as I stripped out the hood/instrument housing ready for blasting etc. main structure is fine but will remake the lower front pannel due to rust eating its way through. Steering columbe bush and plates are worn thin so need to replace when it's rebuilt..

Interior skin looks ok in the main..

To date I'm up to 82 hours of work so not bad for a learn as you go process...:)

Finally got the axel tube back, the weld looked good so re built and re fitted. Will remove the L/H axel tube this weekend and strip it down to check the seals, bearings and brakes. Hydraulic unit is sized so will send it away for refurbishment sometime soon.

Thanks Ian its at a slow pace at the moment due to working on the 964 as I'm hoping to finish the paint and rust removal before winter sets in. I can then get back to Otto and crack on..

Up to 101 hours to date but as the tinwork isn't my forte I sent it away today for rework so looking forward to getting the battery tray, instrument panel, and wings reworked and returned at some stage. I took a punt on a replacement bonnet which I saw for sale in Ireland which was advertised as "the last one available". Arrived this week and happy to say it's ok....

Getting a replacement bonnet looks a right result - the amount of time it took to repair the nose damage on mine, you are bound to be ahead.

Very, very lucky to get the bonnet "rare as hen's teeth" but took a punt and looks to be the right one...
As you say Ian it will hopefully save a shed load of work long term.

I agree,

My bonnet took the panel beater at 911RRR about 100 hours work without the fabrication and welding !
