Removing wiring harness

Having disconnected all items in the car from the wiring loom it was time to take it out. I disconnected it from the engine compartment and removed the clips at the front of the compartment that keep it neatly in place. I am working on the principle it comes out from the front of the car.
Once under the car I was able to pull the wiring loom from the engine compartment and underneath the car. The path for the loom goes over the right hand torsion bar but it is quite tight. With a bit of persuasion (removing the disintegrating cover on the loom), I was able to start feeding the loom over the torsion bar.
The problem I noted was the connectors from engine compartment seem too big to fit over the torsion bar. Do I need to remove the torsion bar first or is there a specific place that is wide enough for the connectors to pass?
Regards
