Hi,
Does anyone on here remember a John Akers that had a 911 in the late 60's early 70,s that he used to Autocross around the Southport area? He also had a lightweight TVR Grantura!
Thanks Dave

An old thread, but worth reviving in case anything came of it. I recently found some fantastic photos of John racing early 911s on the sand at Southport in the late-1960s/early1970s. They were taken by Peter McFadyen. I believe John was spannered by Clive Turnbull - another name people may recognise? Interested in any info. Many thanks, Robert

... one of the cars John drove was registered CJM 540D. Does that ring any bells? Many thanks, Robert

Hi Robert.
Thanks for reviving my old post !! Clive Turnbull did indeed spanner for John Akers , Clive is still alive and well he has some of the trophies that John won whilst racing . Unfortunately both Johns early 911's that he raced are either tucked away somewhere when he sold them or they are no longer alive . I fear the latter as all that Southport beach racing must of done the shell no good at all.
Clive assures me that the cars were always jet washed off underneath !
I will ask Clive for some period pictures and post them in the next couple of weeks.
All the best Dave.

Hi Dave, good to hear about Clive and looking forward to the photos. The cars I am aware of are LYL 2D, last seen as a resto project in Australia some ten years ago, and CJM 540D, which I haven't been able to trace. Do you know what colour CJM was? It looks dark blue or something similar from some of the photographs? I have also seen pictures of a sand race in which both cars took part, so someone other than John must have been driving one or other? Best wishes, Robert
