I think this is a great reference car for anyone painting a 73MY car but a couple of points to note which I'm sure Kieron won't mind me pointing out.

Firstly the black paint on the sill stops a little short in these photos and should extend further back past the torsion hole area. This was corrected before the car left us.
Also Kieron opted to paint the underside of the car (same as my 2.4E) which normally would have been left as unpainted underseal;you actually hardly notice this on a Light Ivory car as it's a very similar colour and almost impossible to tell once the car has done a couple of thousand miles. Same as the body colour under arches which turn black in no time at all!

I'd like to say a huge thanks to Kieron for his patience whilst his car was with us, he never once complained at the delay and was a perfect client The project here took us far too long although think everyone was pleased with the end result.

.....when I attempted the production number first time around on my 2.4E dash I did actually tell Rich that I'd managed to find out who supplied Porsche with crayons back in the day and purchased one from the same supplier in Germany so that it was a perfect match. He was gobsmacked! .....

.....I don't think I ever did tell him I was pulling his leg! .....

Hi Adam - yes, the shell and paint quality are both superb and I am really pleased... As for reassembly, I got Gary over here at the weekend and we (he) put the wiring loom in along with a few other jobs. I've now got a running order for re-assembly so it's down to me for awhile until Gary's next visit

I hear yours is due at GDC later this year so that must mean paint soon?

Sorry guys you're right I'm well overdue an update but much has happened since my last entry not least that I've taken early retirement So there was me thinking with a lot more time on my hands I could get stuck in to the rebuild but Mrs.W had other ideas..



So the plan now is that I will crack on and refit as much as I can and Gary will complete the car early in the New Year, that means I should have it for the Spring. Atleast I've got a target to work to..




Trim and seats have been collected from Garry (VisualFX), all look superb...






I've got the wiring loom in with Gary's help...

81. Recaro seat bases - restoration..

The seat bases in my car had been butchered to take after market seats when the car was prepared for rallying in the 1990's. The hinged top frames were removed and crude tabs welded in place to take bucket seats. Fortunately, the guy I bought the car from had tracked down the original seats (frames and foams) and these have been re-covered and reassembled by Garry (VisualFX) - see earlier images.

As for the bases this is what I started with..










The PO had managed to pick up a passenger side top frame, although I don't think it was correct for a Porsche as it was too wide. So rather than make two I managed to reduce the width of this by about 20mm and re-weld the 'open' lever.







I still needed to make a new top frame for the drivers side...







After a couple of hours (let's say 6) with a grinding wheel and some files I finished up with supports and locating hooks for the spring loaded bar.








Modified old frame and new frame welded in place, Stoddards provided the hinges and springs.






And after powder coating..






I had considered buying some repro seat bases from Carpoint but looking at what I've finished up with I'm glad I persevered with the originals..

Always best to use original parts, and you have made a great job of them!

So for a long overdue update.

82. More cleaning and refurbishing.


I've been continuing with the cleaning and refurbishing of parts prior to the car going off to Gary Cook for completion.

The heat control boxes came out quite well after being dismantled and powder coated.
















Steering rack had new bearings and lithium grease.













The Father-in-Laws sash clamp came in very useful for bolting up the wishbones....











Dry run with the steering column and switches..












Pedal box cleaned up with with new bushes fitted..

















Fuel filter console cleaned up and fitted with new seals and ' O' rings..




















Thought I'd be brave and take a look inside the torque tube with my new endoscope which connects to my smartphone ( $25.00 including shipping )

Wheels weren't too bad but went to Nick Moss for refurb..
