After some thought, i could not remember when I last changed the brake fluid in my 911...
It could easily be 10 years, so while waiting for parts to come for another project, decided to flush the old out with nice fresh DOT4 fluid.
Simple task really, working on the early 911 is a dream, nearly as easy as the hillclimb LOLA race car and a light year better than the weighty Boxster.
Did the rears first, so jacked up and stands under and using my race bleed kit with one way valves set to pumping fluid through. Took 25 full movements before I was convinced the old was out (M type tiny calipers at the rear, stock 73T)
With the pedal going full travel, also oiled the pedal pivot shaft and master cylinder link to get lub right into the mechanism (bronze bushes, now 34 years old).
Filled the rubber nipple cover with grease (to keep them in place) and simply repeated for the other side and similarly the fronts too but with A type large calipers, 30 pumps to flush through.
Had a good look around the suspension for anything nasty, but all good.
Washed the inside rims of the wheels and the residue from the Carbone pads will not give up to any cleaner I have inc thinners, so it will have to stay.
The pads are in great condition along with the drilled discs fitted about 15 years ago!
Wheels back on and knackered myself torquing the 20 lug nuts to 94 lbft. Showing my age.
Thought a test drive would be a good idea but the rain had started hard, so that will have to wait to another day.
Surprisingly satisfying morning, seems ages since I put a spanner on this car.
