I decided to anodise and re colour these wheel nuts, which I only actually bought for the 4 locking nuts, to prevent my Fuchs getting stolen. But they're in better condition than the ones on the car, so I'll probably swap them out.



After half an hour's research on the Internet into which black anodising dye to use, I realised I had just the thing already in the house.



I was really pleased how they came up.



I also replaced the plastic screw plugs with these M6 rivnuts to hold the doorhandles on the 3.2 backdate.



And I felt a bit like bomb disposal cutting out a load of old unused wiring loom. Wires from electric windows, central locking, motorised door mirrors, etc. In 20 years somebody forward-dating this car may well be cursing me.

Loose wire to the cdi. My crimping wasn't up to standard. I recrimped but it came apart again so I used a different type. certainly not coming apart again. I tried to solder but I couldn't do it. I think I need more practice.

The fault most people make is heating the solder first - use the iron to heat the wire(s) first and then use the heat from that to melt the solder. Well done on finding the problem, though!

Wrap it in a coat/jumper etc Neil.
I have had one experience when the scrutineer did not like the mark on my helmet ages ago. No damage, just a mark!

Big thanks to GavP who came around yesterday to help me work through cold start system electrics - no mean feat. With his permission I will upload his testing diagram to the 'how to' threads - so if you have MFI cold start issues definitely worth checking out. Runs through testing relays, switches, solenoid, thero switch etc. We think we traced my problem to a dodgy / loose connection at the thermo switch. Everything else appears to be working as it should. Thanks again Gav, wouldn't have been able to do it without you!

I thought my luck had returned. New Brockley Tyres arrived 60 mins before my fitting appointment. Great speedy service from Brockley.

I arrived at place on time. They were a bit confused by an old car arriving and wanted to make sure the tyres where ok. After 25 mins they started to work on it and realised they can't balance the tyres because of the wide fitting hub. I tried another 2 places including the place that have previously fitted tyres and no luck.

Quick begging call to Greatworth and Angus is going to fit me in at 9:30 tomorrow.

Great DDK family to the rescue.

Turns out that the new tyres are on the front (from last year). Probably never balanced. Is there anything wrong with moving these wheels to the rear and moving my rear wheels to the front then fitting the new tyres. The cars geometry was setup about a month ago. Moving wheels around should be ok?

Won't make a bit of difference to the geometry.

Agree totally.
It was very common practice to move the wheels on a cat diagonally, lft front to right rear etc to even wear out.
If the tyres are all the same size (spec) then all is good.

I tried that once with my cat and she wasn’t at all pleased.
