Poked about a bit underneath as the APK mannie had advised of a steering rack leak. Had planned on refurbishing everything at the front end over winter, but after a right good eyeballing have decided it's more of a weep than a leak and best left alone for now. Did find a bust boot on a drop link, though. So that'll get replaced when I do the shocks and springs that *do* need doing.

Responding to Neil, and I just know there are lots on here needing to know:
2.9 Boxster, 72K miles.
@ 130 KPH had 38 mpg for hours on end, also the same on the M40! Never went faster, speed cameras all over the show but not in the towns.
@ less than 70 KPH around towns, 34 mpg.
all on E10. Felt I had lost a few mpg's due to E10 use, but seems not
Ran faultlessly the whole time.

Finally got all the wheels off my 1970T and took stock: three deep six: non heart 9/70 and hearts 2/69 and 9/68. One flat six 5/72 and one AEW replica flat six.
All pretty mint on the backs, no pitting or corrosion. A few minor dings on the front.
I guess the deep six hearts are the originals so I should look to swap at least two of the others.
What would the spare have been in 1970?

James,
I have had a couple of people have a go at setting up the geo but was never really convinced it was the best it could be. My set up comprises of new bushes front struts etc so little wear on anything. The handling was good but I was never fully confident in driving on demanding roads. There were detail issues which have now all been resolved. Definately worthwhile and a significant improvement.

The spare would depend to an extent on which market the car was destined for and the car's model plus whatever options were available. My 1970 S 911, USA delivered ( late 1969 build) came with a deep six with hearts Fuchs.
