Jay Leno drives a 356 outlaw video
A guy on www.abcgt.com posted this Jay Leno video and I liked it. The guy built the car himself after converting a 356A coupe into a speedster body. His work really looks good and it drives well and put the sound up to hear the exhaust!

Nice video, hope I copied and pasted it okay.

Thanks for sharing that. For a muscle car guy Jay does feature quite a few Porsches

Jay Leno has a wide range in his collection .Few years ago he turned up early one Sunday morning to flag us off on Liege Rome Rally.
Lot more to him than a Yank Tank man.

Re: Jay Leno drives a 356 outlaw video
Is it me or did there seem to be a kind of awkwardness between Jay and the guy who restored it?
Have a look here,
http://www.fantasyjunction.com/cars/140 ... 4-Cylinder
for photos of the car being built. To answer the question Roy, I don't think he bought speedster panels but please make up your own mind. The Chassis has had some interesting repairs too, or am I just too critical?

It doesn't matter if you speak your mind, because those that matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter.......!

Simon,
I had the feeling possibly he didn't want to see the car depart. When you put all the work in on the car you just might be thinking after the attention it raised, should I have kept it? . Just my opinion.
You are correct some the repairs are not exactly like factory pressings but the car is an outlaw so providing they welded onto sound metal its probably okay. The 'A' donor car was as usual very rusty underneath. The finished chassis result from photos looked nice to me though.
Justin Rio is converting a coupe to a speedster himself you can see his thread on www. abcgt.com I know at some point it was advised there is a guy in the states that is producing the panels needed to convert. Those back panels of course are so different to the coupe. Maybe he did make them but thats not an easy job at all.
I also wonder what it did sell for. Difficult to price a mix match car that looks very nice, drives well etc but is spoodster as some call them.

Re: Jay Leno drives a 356 outlaw video
Roy,
I guess the underside was restored at a time when repair panels (such as rear suspension mounts) weren't readily available? Anyway, it does look clean and sound!
It's not clear, has Mr.Leno bought the car or not?
I also wondered what the sale price was as one my fathers pre-war cars was bought by a dealer based in France and then turned up at Fantasy Junction for a huge sum of money.....

Hugo,
I enjoyed that video. Those carpets in the Gmund are 10 years older than mine and the headling has those nice brown stains. So nice it was not messed about with. They must have been tempted to rip it all out. But sense previaled.
Thanks for posting.
