Carcoon for outside/winter use; experiences?

Post by 911hillclimber »

I have a winter outdoors Carcoon. Have used it for 2 seasons, Nov to March with my 73T inside.

I have had very rusty brakes as a result (car bone dry when 'carcooned' and the paint has micro blistered in places.

I'm reluctant to do another winter and trying to find storage soon so I can start on my race car re-build in a double garage.

Am I alone in this experience, or have I missed a trick somewhere?

Surly the Carcoon simply pumps wet cold air from the outside to the inner chamber at the bleed 'flap' at the front?

Thanks,
Graham.

Graham are you able to run electricity to the carcoon as a small dehumidifier inside will fix the problem. There are also canisters you can buy that do the same job and you have to dry them in your oven every so often. If you go with canisters buy a cheap humidity meter so you know what is going on and when to dry in the oven.

I would not keep a car outside in a bubble without the above as if the air is damp outside it will be damp inside and you have seen the results. I only have direct experience of a dehumidifier so going on the marketing blurb for the canisters.

Unfortunately decent dry storage is not cheap as I know to my cost having 2 in store at the moment.

Thanks Ian, that is my finding too. I'm sure less damage came to the car while it was under a loose cover outside than in the Carcoon.
I can get 240V to the carcoon, so will see what i can find.
Classic Car show next weekend at the NEC, so a good chance to see what is available there.

Is that the man who ran the breakfast sundays at Cosford?
If so, I have emailed with no response.

Any further details?
Have a very kind offer from another DDK'r but cannot drop the car until mid december.

I would be interested to hear what you see at the NEC. I have an outside Carcoon and indoor airflow chamber set up inside my damp garage for my 993.
