WORKSHOP SHELVING
Am hoping to plunder the deep pool of knowledge that is the DDK forum.......
I need some industrial style, floor mounted shelving to kit out a store room in our house.
The shelving will only take household clobber - no crankcases et al - but I thought that many of you might have gone through the selection process when fitting out your workshops.
There are one or two racking / shelving systems which come up on E Bay, but I've no idea if they're any good.
Some guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Yours

Re: WORKSHOP SHELVING
Buy Longspan - You have to build the end Frames (simple) but after that you drop in the Shelf Support Rails and the Chipboard Shelves
Very Simple, Very Strong, Very Versatile and good value for money
Longspan is a generic name for this type of racking (usually Blue End Frames and Orange Shelf Rails) and there are about 6/8 different manufacturers The different manufacturers are NOT interchangeable (the end connections on the rails are all different) so if you think that you may wish to expand it in the future - ask the supplier who makes it and make a decision as to who you think may still be around in a couple of years’ time
The Shelf Support Rails are available in 2 x depths to accommodate different loads
Research it on all the web

Re: WORKSHOP SHELVING
The PO of my house left me a garage fitted out with this stuff
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S29896381/
It works a treat - I have 4 winter tyres (see what I did there?) stored on the top shelf on a pair of units
I then chopped the top off one of the units to make a small workbench - using some Ikea shelving as the surface.

Re: WORKSHOP SHELVING
I bought three floor to ceiling units and a workbench from these guys. You just need a rubber mallet to assemble no fixings!
Strong and I have had it 5 years.

^ I have the big dug stuff too. It's cheap but don't get the chipboard wet and bolt the shelves together and to a wall if possible.
Re: WORKSHOP SHELVING
Try Rapid Racking, they normally have a couple of good deals going and are very strong/versatile units

Mike, Dirk, Tosh, 914-6, Johhny - that's pretty useful. Can start some serious enquiring now. First step in getting our family life a bit more sorted so more important than you might think.... Will keep you posted and thanks again.
Re: WORKSHOP SHELVING
I just bought some from "theappledorn" on eBay. Less than half the price of big dug and appears to be almost identical
Re: WORKSHOP SHELVING
Guys my eBay ones turned up and I put them together. Would not recommend they are cheap for a reason!
Re: WORKSHOP SHELVING
Go down to your local machine mart shop. I bought the 350kg per shelf as below

Re: WORKSHOP SHELVING
+1 for the Big Dug shelving. surprisingly good when you have it firmly together. Very light to build, but goo stuff. incredibly popular and precision made.

Re: WORKSHOP SHELVING
Most of ours came from Costco. We use it at home in the workshops and showroom. Great value and excellent service but you have to go and pick it up.
