Hot Rod Drag Week

Post by Highfield »

OK so here is a subject that may have bought you to this thread thinking it could be a number of things :-)

However, if you are in to american V8 and drag racing, then this week sees a five day, 1200 mile street car drive across the US. No big deal, but these cars also have to run the quarter mile drag race each day, and they are now running down as low as 6.72 at 214mph - unbelievable.

Having just been over to Santa Pod this week and seen Frosty in his Red Victor 3 car, I cannot help but think he should be out there showing the Americans how to do it :-)

Google Hot Rod Drag Week 2013 and take a look at this video from 2010 when Larry Larson runs the first 6 second street car pass .... oh and he drives through the rain to get there.

Anyone lese on here in to V8 as well as flat-6 ?

Interesting dyno pull here - 615 cubic inches and 2100 bhp with 26lbs boost - nearly pulls the dyno apart.

Drag racing, love it! I went up to the Pod on Saturday, then Hedingham sunday, also did Dragstalgia weekend this year, after many years of going to Goodwood etc, this tops it for me every time.

Been going to drag race meets since 1965 and agree, there's nothing like it!

and oh how we enjoyed it when you used to race them.

perfect excuse to post a pic of No Mercy - I loved it in it's first guise. If only I'd have listened to the advice on the bonnet all those years ago!

Went to Santa Pod for the first time in 1971.
Built hot rods until 1988 (real hot rods...sorry), Custom Car Stand car and lots of shows, even trophies.

However; hard core drags are exhilarating way beyond belief, and I wish I had raced rather than cruised.

Off to Shakespeare this weekend/sunday for the NSRA Nostalgia Drags, taking the 911! (to watch)

Two Top fuelers simultaneously launching is just a good vib, in more ways than one...

Owned a 67 Camaro and a 68 Firebird and would like to get back to owning one of those again at some time.

Ran a Triumph Herald built by Johnny Mulligan that had a 289ci Ford - first Pro Street car in the UK :-) Those were the days !

Am following Hot Rod Drag Week as it is amazing to see a street car run that quickly and then drive 200 miles to the next track.
