Porsche 912 "Lucy"

Hi everyone,

Been far too long since my last post and I'll attempt to update with progress more often in future.

Bit the bullet and ordered an OE Porsche rear wing: At 1200 Euros was not cheap. Standing forthwith an angle grinder focuses the mind as you can imagine. So nice and slowly we went....



Preped: My paint dude suggested the joggled edge......





Fitted.











Can only recomend the OE part. Have drawn some templates from the other original side and the profile is 99% the same, which for parts produced close to 30 years apart, is fantastic. If anyone else is consiering the same job, I'd recommend cutting a template for the rear window as it gives a great datum to work from.

Have also mounted the remote oil filter and will get an image up tomorrow.

Chassis wise - I can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

So, this evenings update. As promised inclusive oil filter install.

I have managed to complete the complete rear wing install over the weekend and am very pleased with the outcome. Progress seems to come in leaps and bounds at the moment and I am really motivated to get the chassis complete before the clocks change....... famous last words et al.

Evening 911 Hillclimber - hope the Lola is fit and well. I'll not be at Shelsley Walsh for the August meeting this year, but I was there to see Herr Stuck and the Auto Union a few weeks back. Was great. Puts Bernie, Lewis and the chums in a different light.....

Regarding the oil install, I've been taking my ideas from this 912 in the USA. It is also featured in the Wayne Dempsey 912 Bible.

I wanted to keep the engine bay as original as possible, hence the location of the oil filter. I am also now planning a CSP thermostate to keep the oil temperatures under control - again as per the example above. I plan to add a protection screen with louvers in front of the thermostate and oil filter in order to keep the road debris at bay. Oil cooler wise I am torn between a single cooler in the front drivers wing or twin coolers behind the fog light holes. Either way I am planing solid oil lines a la 911 SC front to rear. Using Aeroquip hose front to rear not only looks out of place on a classic, but is also very expensive

Short update tonight.

Instrument panel repair





Remade the rear bulkhead seat brackets as the old ones were corroded.



Rear window also now complete - all small holes now welded.



Front longitudinal that I removed to get rid of the iner rust has been plated.



Ordered a load of Restoration Design panels....







Mrs B said it looks like a car now....

Hi everyone,

An update after a couple of months work. Not as far as I'd like but thats normal with this sort of job.....

Have been able to take the engine apart.







Easy does it....rubber bands to stop the lifters going missing and out of order.



Cam and crank look good.



Rods.



Cases cleaned



And.....she looks in good nick apart from.....



The engine has been run for a considerable length of time with the above damage. The centre main bearing was worn to the copper substrate on its edge, as the bearing had migrated left to touch the crank. I also found no trace of the missing case piece. Apart from that, all the bearings are standard size and nothing has been reground.

Have a meeting in December with Ahendorp who have been recomended to me. Hoping they are able to repair the above.

Chassis wise. Here we are:

Have learnt to use Porsche OE rubbers. Left OE. Right EBay/Dansk - there is a small but impartant differance in the profiles. Porsche OE just fits better on the car....









With chromed horn grills.
