Re: Porsche 912 "Lucy"
Evening all.
Has been a while since my last update. Had suffered project block. Was away in Italy for a few weeks, but have since re-discovered my Mojo.
Had two solid days on the front end.
Bulkhead is welded and sanded:
Wing mount finished. Surprised how far my welding skills have progressed since the other side was completed last year.
Bumper mount. Self made.
Cross member
Spot welds have been ground back and edges finished. Very pleased with the look.
Had a load of stuff media blasted. Wings look ok, but will require some attention.
She's coming along....
More over the weekend.
Thanks for looking
Matt

Very nice work. Keep those pics coming. Glad you've got your mojo back - useful things, mojos.
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young but I'm just backdated yeah

Re: Porsche 912 "Lucy"
Agreed, Mojo's. Very important those.
Keep being asked about project timing....so, at the risk of sticking my neck out. I would like to attend Le Mans Classic 2016 with Lucy. It seems to be a general target of every ones and a long road trip for Hessen to Le Mans would be fantastic I think.

That shouldn't be a problem after all you've done so far

Re: Porsche 912 "Lucy"
Guten Abend,
Update after half a day on the 912:
Bulkhead strip is welded and sanded.
Doubler for the bumper brackets. Not original, but helps the side that I've not completely replaced.
Join on the supension pan is ugly and am not that happy with this at the moment. Father in law is of the opinion that with Lead Tinning this can be sorted.
Bonnet pull pipe is ready to be Brazed
Suspension pan. Have had to bend this a little to get a decent fit between 60's and 2014 metal.....
Suspension cross member next on the weld list
Cheers
Matt

Re: Porsche 912 "Lucy"
Guten Abend zusammen:
Had a solid weekend. Bonnet and bumper is checked.
Porsche brush is a new part 912 specific number for 2015. 901.562.56.13. I've managed to get hold of a first prototype......
Got hold of a correct washer tank bracket.
Onwards!
Into the floor pan.
Restoration design. Trying to decide if to fit the original brake pipe/fuel pipe bracket, or to use some grommets. Grommets is a cleaner look:
ich habe die Nase voll von Schleifarbeiten...
Looking forward to NOT welding/sanding.

Re: Porsche 912 "Lucy"
Lovely work, and great to see . Nice to see you being so careful with jigs and measurements: it's very easy to pile in and lose of the references.
Interesting to hear your views on RD panels, looks like they are giving the 'genuine' ones a run for their money. The quality of some the of the Porsche panels has dropped off a cliff recently, so the gap between genuine and pattern has been closed substantially.
Best wishes with the next stages on the shell .

Re: Porsche 912 "Lucy"
Hi Barry,
Thanks for the kind comments.
So far I have used the a number of Restoration Design parts. Originaly I sourced these through JOMA but now RD have changed over to another Euro importer, Marcel who is much much better. The quality of the RD parts is very good, and having met the guys from Canada at the Techno Klassika Essen I can say they have a real passion for getting things 100% They are also developing new parts all the time and I know they are on with the battery/front corner area which I had to fabricate myself. RD will also answer your questions in a timely manner.
I agree with your comments regarding the quality. The OE Porsche are the best, with Dansk the worst in my experince.
Having purchased a Dansk floor and suspension pan, I elected to change over to RD parts - see some previous entries last year for more details. The Dansk bulkhead needed a lot of tidying up. The window corners are a nightmare to fit. I am of the opinion that the Dansk tooling is worn out. Dansk also seem to follow their own ideas with the welding .i.e not OE Porsche style
The fit of the RD parts is very good and the parts are welded a la Porsche.
This evening I've fitted this without too much hassel - it FITS and everything lines up with the Lazer beam!
Thanks for the kind comments.

Re: Porsche 912 "Lucy"
Good evening everyone,
Some updates from my side. More sheet metal work.
Repair section for the chassis tunnel. Cardboard template before cutting the metal.
Mount in against the new Restoration Design footrest/pedal box part.
Weld in
Left hand side. The other side replacement is going to be a little more complicated because of the double bend in the floor. Have a plan though.
Right hand side. New repair piece also ready to weld in.
Removed and repaired the heater pipe. Will not be used, so just for optics.
Also made a frame to support the chassis whilst the floor is being removed.
Aweful non Porsche seat brackets have been removed.
Shes coming along some more....

Re: Porsche 912 "Lucy"
This is a great thread, love the classy DIY skill and careful application.
Dansk were poor fit with the parts I used in 1988 when I rebuilt my shell, Porsche parts could be fitted blindfolded.
Please keep it coming and with your clear pics too
