I see alot of work has gone into that bumper Hebster, the rear will be easier...

Are you going to chrome them when done ? Looks good in chrome.

Not going to chrome them. I've got a tight budget allready..

Driverside door frame mounts done! Makes the inner skin some more rigid already… :D



Next step is to start fitting the lock mechanisms…. I will mount the beetle locks upside down as this way the lever arm on the locks will work straight up with the press button on outer handles.

As the body was molded from an original pre-A the B-pillar indent on the B-pillar is higher up than on the speedster kits on the market. So also this makes it more easy to fit them upside down.
The indents were not 90 degrees from the doorskin but in an angle towards front… So I had filled up with more fiberglass on the backside so I could grind off almost 10mm on the inner side of the indention… Became very thin so I'll ad some more fiberglass on the backside later…

Now the driverside door lock works! Lots of work as the door and B-pillar need to be remodeled from original to fit the Beetle locks. Much easier on a off the shelf kit car where such work is already done…

Just a thought Hebster.

Has you've got the skin removed, consider fabbing up side impact bar. Easy to do at this stage, mount it from both hinges across to the latch. That'll give it its most strength angered from A post across to the B post. You never know when it may be needed.

Thanks. I think the X inside the doors that is a part of the rollcage will take care of that issue rather than a single impactbar mounted to the fiberglass body? :D

This arrived from Sweden yesterday. Now I have the innerskin and support that looks more correct than the ugly box that previous builders had started to make..

Not much but the past week finally got some time in the garage. Had for beginners repair the enginelid frame that had been damaged in shipping. Some cracks on each side of the "box"...



Then reshaping the curves to fit the Pre-A bodyshapes..



Also made the "lip" around the grill.




Then decided to make the edges look more like originals. Yes.. Overdoing it again... :D
So I molded on some fiberglass sheets that I then can cut to shape later.





Also started making the steel mounts into the doors for hinges...
These also got the doorstoppers welded on.
