Hi Hebster

Did you just bend the U shaped channel over your wooden template?? Or was there more to it than that?? What metal you using??

Basically yes. I used an other wooden buck with a channel that fit tight over the profile. That prevent the edges from folding and forces the profile to stretch an shrink instead. The curves should actually be tighter than the final frame as the metal tend to spring back some. Had to work some with it off the wooden template to get the finished curves.

Hi Herbster,
Great work......I am interested if you made your wooden window former template from an original window or did you make it to fit the opening on your car?

Also what are your plans for the Pop out window catch and front hinge, as these are things that I have also been debating as the original parts are so expensive and I am not sure I have seen any replica parts available.

Also presuming your ones turn out OK, would you consider making me a set?

Cheers
Rob

I made my template from a CAD drawing from a collegue who had an original to compare with. Seems to work in my coupe replica too.

Plan to use popout latches for vw type-1 and possibly same hinges too...

Not planned to make more than this set at the moment...

Wow they look amazing, you have either got to pass your tools on to someone that can make these commercially or start trading and make them for others. I have been looking for a while at originals and nothing comes up that are any good / affordable. Let me know if you are prepared to make a set for me or sell the tooling as I am definitely in the market for a pair and I know a few others that would love some too.

Yesterday I finally got time to weld the bumper. Also filled the gap just to make the bumper look more "fat". Unfortunately I was out of grinding flapdiscs so I had to leave the welds ungrinded for now...
