So a few more jobs completed in recent days. The car had it's import inspection and the registration plates should arrive on Monday.

Meanwhile I made up a mat for the boot. I didn't want to use factory carpet but I wanted something to tidy up the appearance. So I decided on a custom leather mat.

Making a template

Transferring that to a the leather and making out for some embossing

Stitched and bound onto a foam backing.

Image

Cardboard template for a 6mm hardboard support piece.

Another job ticked off the list.

Next job was to fit one of Classic Retrofits programable CDI boxes

Image

Fits in perfectly and you would need to look twice to see it is not original.

Image

Programming lead fits to one of the spare relay openings.

Image

Out of the box the unit retards the ignition at little so I re-timed the distributor.

Image

With the software installed I can add in a custom timing map, change rev limit values, calibrate the rev counter and various other cool options.

Image

Image

On a turbo engine this is especially useful as its important not to have too much advance at higher revs when the engine is on boost, so from the factory it has very little advance at low revs, but I will be able to create my own curve to add some advance lower down to help with low end torque without effecting the settings higher up the rev range.

I also have an Innovate system hooked up to a lambda to see what is going on with the mixture under various driving conditions. A little rich at the moment...

Love the front mat! I fancy one of those.

Very interested in the results of the ignition mapping.

Dusty, what a skill-set you possess, further enhanced by YOUR imagination and artistry. I continue to be amazed by this rebuild...the ultimate "calling card" for your shop. John in CT/USA.

I think we all agree with your capitals John, this is indeed a very special car, I doubt he will have it long, so that means we can look forward to another! :)
I never seem to be in the right place to see these cars, so I hope to see a good article soon in our favourite magazine, but a great thread soon to be concluded.

Gave the car its first wash!

And then took it in for the final touch, some stripes (makes it go faster!)

All it needs now is a good road test, about 1500 miles I reckon....

It's about as ready as it can be.
