Speedometer and gauge repair and restoration

Post by Buzdrum »

Hi, just thought I'd let everyone know about my shop. We can repair, restore and retrofit all Porsche gauges, our prices and turnaround are better and quicker than any competitor. Check out our website for more pics and info. Thanks, Buz

Maybe the irony was missed there.

OK, let's test this out!

I had my 1983 electric speedo with stripped odometer gear repaired last week.

The brief was to strip the speedo, replace with correct gear and not to change the odometer reading or do ANY face/bezel refurb so keeping the match to the other gauges in the car.
Ship the instrument back to me in the UK by first class post.

It went to a UK company who quoted in 2 hours, firm price.
I sent the speedo to them in a good box (so they could re-use it).

So:

How much for the same job and how long a lead time to my door from reciept assuming you have the right gear ratio in stock? :)

Shipping to & from Seattle is going to add a bit of time (& cost) to the equation Graham ...

We have the gear in stock, $165 for the repair, $18 return shipping. Turnaround time is 1-2 days (not including shipping time)

UK costs/time

Cost £110 + vat
Turn round time was 5 working days
Return post was £3 in my original box.

I've had parts from PMO in California inside of 3 days, so it looks like our new friend is comparable to the Limey supplier.
The really irritating bits are all HMG taxes that endlessly add to the 'in-my-garage' final cost.
