Re: LYY 911D Restoration
The interloper looks like an LWB unit - of some value in its own right if in good nick. Best wishes, Robert

Look again - they're a matched pair 901 631 401 00 & 901 631 402 00

Thanks! Lightweight_911
I am still figuring out how to post these photos with too much focus on editing photos to post and not enough attention to detail!
But it seems these are correct units for LYY 911D, they fit the shell perfectly.

So now into the (almost) four doors. There seem to be subtle differences and maybe 11pm is too late to get into detail so I will go with an overview first - detail later

Re: LYY 911D Restoration
Your original doors will have the last 3 digits of your chassis number on them..... Stamped on the inner surface.

Re: LYY 911D Restoration
Hi Mike Thanks- I will look for the numbers but I am not sure where about they are stamped on the inside door. If the doors are numbered 1 to 4 in the above photo the two right hand ones are rusty enough to be original
Here are photos but I had to shrink them to post. If you can point me to the vicinity to look I will take a close look and post more detailed photos

Re: LYY 911D Restoration
From memory the left door on the car had the 3 digit code stamped on it, but it did not match the VIN. `This is what you are looking for

Re: LYY 911D Restoration
Hmmmm,
The inside of the doors has been painted
Any thoughts on using paint stripper to remove the paint so as to see if I can find the stampings?
I have some Nitromors but don't want any undue damage

Re: LYY 911D Restoration
You won't harm anything with Nitromors, including the paint itself it's not what it used to be. Did you look inside the passenger door? I'm sure there was a number on that one. The drivers door that was "fitted" for the auction is from an impact bumper car, so you wont find a relevant number on that, although 3.2s did have their 6 digit build number stamped on.

Nick
You are right there was one N/S door (the most complete one)
with a number
The other fairly good condition door had a number penciled on it -
I know Porsche did write on some panels in the early days
it looks like ?020915
You are also right Nick, the nitromors only removed upper paint layers
I read Miggs posting about how to use URLs and think I have figured out how to use Flickr to upload photos and use URL to post - we will see if I got it right or if I need to return to the instruction manual. If I got it right there will be lots more pictures soon.

Looks like I need some work to link to URLs
The setting on Flickr was private so I will try setting up a public group

John - you shouldn't need to change the privacy setting for your photos on Flickr.
What you need to do is select the photo you wish to post a link to, choose the image size you want to post, then right click on it/select 'properties' & copy/paste the img code between & tags here on DDK.
