I assume your car would have been fitted with Webers so no Pierburg pumps. I would expect the second picture is the right part.
Others will confirm I hope.

Hi Ian you are right, mine is fitted with Webbers, and no pumps, the ' second ' suits as there seems to be plenty available.

I had been thinking about GRP replacement, but most of the tin cleaned up ok so will likely go metal.

Beautiful car.

Where are the pictures in the earlier posts of this thread (pg. 1 to 9)?

I intend to rebuild the pictures, they got deleted when the site switched over from uploading pictures to the site, to posting links

Car is now onto front wheels for the first time in 4.5 years, this is good progress this week as we can now move the car away from where it has been sitting against the workshop wall, and onto ramps.

And here on the ramps

I have one indicator that is ok condition. other lenses were either faded or cracked. I can't bring myself to take this lense out, as it is original period Bosch.

Image

It has cleaned up ok, but has a few cracks on it, the pictures don't show this well, so I am wondering if anyone has tried getting one of those windscreen repair companies to repair lens?

Also the inside on the unit is vey dusty/ grimy is there a solution the unit can be soaked in to deoslve the grim without effecting the original glue?

For my other corners I need to find either nos or good reproduction lenses.

Who makes the best lenses? I see the Bosch (repro) labelled lenses are available on eBay, has anyone used these?

Thanks Rich

I bought a repro Bosch labelled front indicator. It looks pretty good to me, but i've not tried installing it yet.

Moving forward with the engine rebuild, Jon has voiced concerns over the location of the oil plug in the intermediate shaft, Jon speculates that the engine got hot at some point, allowing the plug to move seeping in the shelf. Am interested in thoughts options and opinions.

1. Is this a problem or not?
2. If a problem, can the plug be machined out and replaced?
3. If yes to 1 and no to 2, does anyone have a spare shaft?

So technical wisdom is that the plug is too deep, it should only be 19mm deep. Mine is far deeper. During overhaul it is suggested that the plug is pulled out and IMS is cleaned. Problem is only later 16mm IMS plugs are still available, looks like this is from 1969 onwards. The plug in my shaft should be 21mm ( this will be measured tomorrow) and should not be secured with a circlip, but it is. This has me wondering if this is another 1968 special case.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, does anyone remanufacture, or have the specs so I can get the plug remanufactured?

Many thanks Rich

So plug came out (we drilled, tapped and pulled), the plug measured 20mm, we have ordered a replacement plug from Germany, we are expecting this to have a stepped profile like the internal bore of the IMS. The oilway inside the IMS was very gunked up, now nice and clean. Replacement plug arrives tomorrow, I hope it fits
