Need some help with shipping insurance
Posted: Fri Jun 21, 2013 5:48 pm
I am looking for marine shipping insurance to cover the transportation of my 71E from the US to UK.
I've talked to Towergate (who are recommended by the shipping agent, Kingtown Shipping); the cost is likely to be 1 - 1.5% of the cargo value (~45K pounds)
I also contacted Hagerty, who have insured my classic cars here in the US for the past 6+ years - they quoted me $400 USD for what looks to be the same port-to-port coverage with an agreed valuation of $65K
Does anyone have experience or opinions on marine insurance?
Cheers,
Stuart

Hagerty Product details
Overseas shipping insurance protects your car against physical
damage and theft during transit by air or sea. An essential portto-
port insurance product, overseas shipping insurance can even
be expanded to become door-to-door coverage, ensuring there
is nothing left to chance from the moment the vehicle starts its
journey until it reaches its final destination. There are two options
available:
• All Risk Insurance – coverage for total or partial loss arising
from physical damage, fire or theft
• Total Loss Insurance – coverage for total loss arising from
physical damage, fire or theft
The key benefits of the policy are:
• Agreed Value coverage for your car
• Your coverage extends to customs clearing warehouses
at each end of the journey
• Your coverage can be tailored to start from the
moment the vehicle is taken into the care and
control of the freight forwarding company
Please note that it is essential that a pre-shipment
condition report and photos of the vehicle
before each leg of the transit are obtained
to ensure quick and seamless claims handling.
