A few more photos of the car as found.
Much of it had been disassembled and packed away in crates.

The gentleman I bought the car from was manager of a Scania lorry service depot.
They maintained and repaired the big trucks.
He felt he’d have the expertise & equipment to rebuild the Porsche but he never got around to it and the car became a nuisance in the workshop.

However, it wasn’t until he took early retirement that he needed to part with the car.
He and his wife were about to move to France and aspired to live on a 1930’s canal boat.
He’d converted a suitable vessel but it was missing a diesel motor so he sold the Carrera to fund the acquisition of a marine propulsion engine.

I did contact him some time after purchasing the car and he confirmed he had found an engine, hopefully he’s still cruising up and down the French waterways. :)

The engine was there.
But was it 'matching numbers'?

The front and rear bumpers on the eighties body kit were massive affairs. And heavy too.
They looked very bulky and – as they were never going to be used – we tossed ‘em into a skip the day we collected.
I remember them being really weighty largely because they were affixed to the chassis with lengths of scaffold pole (no joke).
This is one of the few pics I have to remind me. :( :)

Have you seen the price of scrap metal rise over the years - bet you wish you had kept that scaffolding.

Are those the original front wings with it ?

I agree! I mean, I paid £12K for my '74 Carrera and sold it for £16K... Rampant inflation!

Thanks for the prompt, it gives me a chance for some full and honest disclosure. :)

This car was originally silver.
But sadly, I don’t want a silver car. I feel the world has enough silver cars.
When I come to repaint it differently some folk around here will probably be horrified at the deviation from factory spec.
Maybe there will be people who struggle to understand why I don’t spray it silver again, what’s wrong with silver?

But just look at all the fantastic colours Porsche offered in 1974! Standard offerings included: Light Yellow, Orange, Mexico Blue, India Red, Desert Beige, Grand Prix White, Chocolate Brown, Peru Red, and Lime Green. Plus a handful of metallics.
And then at least a dozen more shades at extra cost. How about Aubergine? Magenta? Lilac? Jade Green? Raspberry? Olive? Gulf Blue? Truly a wondrous palette of colours. Surely there was never a more colourful time to order a new 911.
