Re: Orange badge restoration
Hi Mike,
Do you have a 'one you made earlier' for sale by chance?
I could do with one for my little backdate project.
Kind regards
Sanjay

Re: Orange badge restoration
Hi Sanjay
Backdate? This is news to me. Have I missed something?
Yes, I have a few at different levels of finish and different years ready to go. Let me know if you have any specific requirements. Pm if you prefer.

Mike

Re: Orange badge restoration
Hi Mike,
I have the badge on the right below sat on my desk, constantly in front of me and have an ongoing dilemma about whether to fit it to my E….
….one of the pins has come off which I guess is an easy fix; I do like a little patina however the one big issue I have is that it's just too orangey bronze in colour, the photo flatters it and there's absolutely no hint of any gold finish….
…is there anything that can be done to get it looking a little more NOS?
Cheers,

Re: Orange badge restoration
Mike Restored this badge, now fitted back where it belongs, the owner of the car saw it for the first time yesterday and was very pleased.

Re: Orange badge restoration
Hi Darren
Only just seen this. Been away for a few days.
Yes, the badge can be 'improved' to a brighter finish but obviously not to the level of the one on the left.
It depends what you want. The modern replacement on the left has so many give-away clues that it is not original and yet the one on the right can never have the bling, but it is original.
Thanks for posting the picture Jon. The remit here was to keep patina ahead of bling to have a mellow aged finish.
Regards

Re: Orange badge restoration
Hi Darren
I could probably get the badge on the right of your picture to look more like this one. This badge involved hours of cleaning trying to maintain the original finish underneath. I've no doubt it will dull slightly with use but careful protection and cleaning should maintain its appearance unless it gets a direct hit and suffers a stone chip.

Re: Orange badge restoration
I'd take the one on the right every time. Badge has personality. Personality goes a long way.Darren65 wrote:Hi Mike,

I think the badge I have has been polished to death with all gold plate long gone.....I was hoping to add something back rather than take away!
As I said the photo is misleading and in the flesh it's very bronze all over....still a nice badge though so I might well fit it...or find another. The badge you highlighted is delicious
I appreciate the feedback.
Cheers,
Darren
