Unsubscribe to topic. See my post in 'Please Read' describing how

I don't think you can set it at user level.

Please unsubscribe to threads you are currently subscribed to.

Once I get notifications reinstated please only subscribe to threads that you really need to as there's just too many notifications going out. The levels of mail being sent daily are deemed as spam from the server and its causing problems.

I can see from the logs that some users subscribe to many threads!

If I can't lower the number going out then it can't be reinstated plus I've stopped receiving notification of new members joining which means I can't activate them. Nobody is receiving notifications of private messages either.

I'm looking at a new private network for the forum which would solve this but its going to cost several hundred a month which currently isn't really viable.
I've not taken them all out but have massively reduced them - anyone who wants to do this go to:-

your personal settings (by e.g. clicking on the '0 new messages link top left corner)
>Overview (on left hand side)
>Manage Subscriptions

Look at the oldest pages, select all and remove subscription.

I went down from 31 pages to about 7

Thanks

Please reduce to a minimum and use the facility sparsely.

Even 7 pages means you could be generating many emails daily

Multiply this by many members and hence we soon have 1000s of email being sent daily

Not getting emails when posts update

Another thought, can you switch the notification email to one per day (for all updated threads)?

I had 133 pages worth  .. now all unsubscribed

on other forums you have to 'opt in' on each thread to be subscribed rather that it be automatic if you post

You should be getting them now but please only use the feature sparingly otherwise I will have to turn it off. Thanks

OK I've taken it down to 3 pages worth. Incidentally, with my 31 pages I was getting between 2 and 10 emails a day. I appreciate multiplying that up it can become quite significant. Howvever I did like the fact that someone could post on a thread from a while ago and it would resurrect itself to all the people who originally joined in.

Still it's done no harm to have a really good clearout

Suppose I'll just have to go on the forum more often to keep tabs of the 'new posts'

Thanks, the new post search is the best way of keeping track. I can only disable the ability to subscribe as opposed to limit it so will just need you all to use sparingly.

I am looking at a private network and larger server bit costs are a bit prohibitive to be honest and there's a fair bit of work involved.

Done

Thomas, if you 'disable the ability to subscribe' as you mentioned, would that just uncheck the 'Notify me when a reply is posted' rather than remove it all together?
Otherwise the user has to do this themselves and as you well know, it ain't gonna happen!

Cheers,

Not sure Darren

The facility was working again but have a feeling its stopped now as the volumes are still just too high

Therefore looks like I'm going to have to stop the ability to subscribe to threads I'm afraid as its just being used too much and I can't have the sever sending out 1000s of emails a day

You'll need to do them manually please

Otherwise no notifications will go out and I won't be aware of new members unless I go through a long winded manual process And I haven't got the time so we will end up not seeing new members at the expense of too many subscribed threads
