Warped 911 Valve covers

What's the best fix for a warped valve cover on a 911 engine?
Can I machine about 1,5mm off it safely?
Or should I get hold of some of those thicker silicon gaskets they (appbiz)sell on ebay?

The best solution to this problem is usually to use Turbo valve covers as they have additional stiffening ribs.
However if your car still has the original '67 engine with it's sandcast valve covers you can't replace the lower ones with the Turbo versions as these earlier engines used only 6 studs to attach the lower valve covers as opposed to 11 studs for the later (mid '68-on) engines.
I would try & get some less-warped valve covers & use the excellent (& re-useable) silicon gaskets from Robert Breshears at Appbiz.

Dom,
I've successfully nailed my rocker cover oil leaks with the silicon gaskets. I got mine from Pelican:

Certainly worth trying before investing in machining or new covers.

....any idea how thick they are?, as I can probably get some made up at work

From memory I'd say they are around 2mm thick. If you use your old ones as templates consider that they are slightly larger than the original (by about 1mm) around the outer edge, presumably to let the valve cover 'bite' into the silicon. With all the fiddly sections involved I'd just buy some rather than spend two days cutting them out with a knife, but if you have the patience then go for it
