how actually accurate are the moldings of the bodyshells available

Externally I believe they're pretty accurate, down to their asymmetry due to being molded from an originally hand built car!

Chesil made some changes to meet modern C&U - such as raising the headlights apertures in the body to meet minimum height requirements, bringing the bumpers into the body to meet the sphere contact test requirements, molding in a rear fog light into the rear bumper.

Intermechanica appear to have brought the windscreen rearwards to obtain a better wind-up window solution than that of Chesil (who use a filler panel on the door glass runner).

Body slightly wider at bumper height, front and rear.
Rear seat area scuttle profile slightly different.
Rear seat area completely different.
Distance from rear scuttle to screen slightly longer.
Door hinge area totally different.
Door steps slightly different.
Some dont have the gutter around the luggage area.
Some have the luggage catch plate made in fibreglass.
Luggage floor different.
No heater channel internally.
Engine lid underside different.
Doors missing gutter strip, and hinge area different.


I managed to fix most of these, with the exception of the door step. It just wasn`t worth it. Just used a different seal.

cheers i have often thought about building one and always wondered about this question

Apart from the usual / obvious things like the front headlights being too high and the gap between the bottom of the headlight and the indicator / horn grille therefore being too big, isn't the rear body wider and the rear lights further apart on most replicas?.. APART from the Pilgrim replica which appears to have a much neater / tighter rear end?
