My 1967 911 resto

Replace the fuel tank with new porsche part or recon the ok looking old one?

Recon as long as there are no holes or overly thin bits. That's why its called restoration otherwise it would and in some cases should be called replaceoration.

Try recon first at least.

Empty and steam out the tank, then use a propane torch or similar to strip the outer underseal covering to see what you've got. If you look on my Doctors car thread you'll see what mine came out like after this process. I was surprised how good the underlying tank was even though it looked pretty poor. Then if you find no holes, treat with a rust encapsulator like POR15 and then get some 3M sprayable seam sealer sprayed over the outer surface. Treat the inside with Frosts POR15 tank sealer kit. I got a 'good as new' tank for less than 2 hours work and less than £100.

Clearly if after the strip you find holes everywhere bin it and get a replacement from Alan Drayson or Nick Moss.
