Perhaps I should now be changing the title of this thread to ‘Nearly 20 years………………..’?

Progress has been slow over the last six months as I have been buying and sourcing all of the parts that have either been misplaced or that were never there in the first place. This is the problem with buying a car that’s been dismantled by a prior owner – you never really know what you’ve got until reassembly time.

A massive milestone has been reached as the engine and gearbox are now fitted. There are a couple of small things to sort but I am sure that we’ll be running soon.

Image

Previously the MFI pump had been played about with. The thermostat had been removed and some sort of manual adjustment screw had been fitted. Hopefully this will not be too much of an issue to sort. There has also been a couple of oil pipe issues. I was using a 1970 oil tank and gearbox with a 2.4 engine which had a spigot type oil cooler fitted. The new rigid oil pipe at the rear of the engine fouled on the 911 gearbox so we had to use the earlier flexible hose with the smaller 26mm fittings run over the engine. To enable the oil tank to be connected to the cooler an adapter made from a 30mm oil hose elbow with a sleeve welded on was used.

The ash tray delete is now complete with the one piece knee bar now in place.

Image

SWB interior rear view mirror fitted.

Image

I came across an original split rim magnesium Empi five spoke in 5 x 130mm which I was going to use as the spare.

Image

But luckily I also found a single Aluminium Torq Thrust wheel which Dave Conklin was selling on Early S – so I now have a matching spare. Just a light media blasting and a few bits of machining required to match the other four.

I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.......................

911 is now finally running, needs a tune but running at least. I think that this is the first time since 1989 that it's run - taken off the road for some engine work which was never completed and sold to me in 1997 with a different engine.

I found the first and last MOT certificates in some old receipts.

Suspension and ride height now need setting up.

Not too much to do now............

Great news Ralph !

After such a long 'gestation' period I think it deserves a 'coming out' party/celebratory event ...
