VW's in the late 80's / early 90's
Ok then – as per Miggs request let’s get a thread going on the VW scene of the late 80’s and early 90’s. A few of you may have seen this thread that went a little off topic: http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewto ... =1&t=41632
There must have been plenty of us that started off in a VW before moving on to a Porsche. Let’s see all of those old pictures from back in the day. Stockers, Cal Lookers, buggies, Ghia, Type 2 or Type 3 whatever you had.
I’ll start it going with a picture from 1991 of my 54 Oval on a 1970 1500 floorpan - sold this to put a deposit down on my first house!
I have had half a dozen or so bugs, a couple of type 3 and a type 3 Ghia but I’ll have to look in the loft for some pics.
Let’s see what you have had.

What about the seventies?...
Wolfrace was about the only aluminium wheels on the market. My pride & joy.

OK so it's not the VW scene you are thinking of, but it's '93 and a Bug Jam so it counts!
Shortly after this picture my attempts to improve my 1/4 mile time by raising the rev limit on my Golf and destroying my rotor arm in the process left me parked on the start line and somewhat embarrassed in front of a load of aircooled fans!

Here's the notch with a fuel problem on the way to the first Bugjam. If you look to the far RHS of the picture you will see the front wing of an orange Fastback. An older guy pulled up - "I am just going to grab a bite to eat, if you are still here when I come out we'll get you going". Not being keen on this grooming technique we decided that we'd push the car round the corner and wait till he'd gone. Luckily the problem was found to be a sticking fuel pump pushrod so we were soon on our way!

That Oval looked sweet Ralph, do you where it is now?
I don't have many to hand, but here's my KG at Bug Freeze, would have been late 90's though I'm not as old as some of you geezers. My first Beetle came in 1994 and was the 3rd car I'd owned by then (a 1964 Vauxhall Victor came first for a Rockabilly look I had going, then a Polo Classic for a year before the Beetle arrived) I'll need to scan them in sometime, though it was only a 69 1500 Chinchilla Grey with a mild early look. Then I had my KG and then into Porsches.
This was powder blue when I bought it but I stripped it down and had it painted Porsche Dunkel Blue, which happens to be the colour of my 911 now!
Looking at Keiths you can see that shorts get longer as the decade roll on!

Re: VW's in the late 80's / early 90's
Are we allowed to go back to the 70's??
The family Beetle collection in 1974 -
Marshalling on a rally check-point in Dad's black 1965 1200, having bent my rally car a few days before -
Notice another early 911 name?
Championship Autocross entry -
Grass Autotest 1973-ish
Hillclimb at Cricket St Thomas 1980-ish
Sprinting the 914 at Goodwood in 1980 -
Loads more in boxes somewhere that we won't find for years after the move..........................
Cheers!

70's pictures are fine - I forgot that we have a few mature chaps.

1980s:
Keith - you always had your finger on the pulse of the scene. This sums up everything that I thought was cool at the time. I love this shot. Although it maybe could have had a few more girls in it too...
Although I also spent a lot of time at Santa Pod too @ Bug jam '89 & '90....super hot if I remember and a continuous loop on the PA of 'INXS Kick' And Fine Young Cannibals 'good thing'
