Date codes on Momo wheels started appearing in the mid-late '70's.

The 'stacked' Momo logo on your wheel indicates that your wheel is from the late '60's/early '70's.

May I ask what a "Amidst talk of a 2.5 litre ST type engine with twin spark ignition" is? Apart from the obvious I'm guessing these were used in some 911 at Le Mans?

At the beginning of the 70's once the 911 had moved to the 2.2 engine and away from the constraints of the 2-litre class, it allowed the competition cars to be tuned to anything up to 2.5 litres, variations of these cars enjoyed success everywhere from Monte Carlo to Daytona. These engines were the weapon of choice until the arrival of the 2.7's and 2.8's etc. - Nick was merely explaining all of the possibilities we can look at when rebuilding my engine, one of which being the twin spark distributors he manufactures that look very similar to the original.

Alas, I'm still looking for a slightly larger diameter flat black Monza

On my dream list too and I have been looking for a few years. Not sure my pockets will be deep enough these days if I ever find one.

The car has now been stripped and taken for media blasting…



…sunroof has been carefully removed and is going, the plan is for Barry to wheel up a new section and replace…



This is a car of two halves, the rear is really quite solid…





…whereas the front is none too pretty with plenty of previous repairs…





…NS inner wing is being replaced, possibly OS inner too …



…and the floor as usual needs a lot of work…



I'm lucky that front wings and rear quarters were replaced shortly before the car was put into storage, all are in excellent condition. They wouldn't have lasted if the car was on the road, the sparse underseal didn't need to be scraped, just cleaned off with some thinners ….





The battery boxes have unusual brackets welded on the top, anyone know what these may have been for?….



Ready to go…..a message here maybe, but not once Barry has worked his magic! ….



…and safely with Cleaning Consultants rubbing shoulders with other exotica…



Looking forward to getting the car to Barry where I understand he's given a kiss of life to a shell that was close to a flat line!

All forward steps from now on and I should have a nice solid finished shell by the end of the summer.

Yes - they're brackets for TTG lights ... but they shouldn't be welded on they should only be bolted.

The car is going straight to Barry after blasting; I hope to be swapping with him in the next 3/4 weeks.

The brackets are actually bolted not welded, I guess the car had a similar look to that of my E back in the 80's…



It's been fun choosing the final specification of this car and drawing on inspiration from numerous sources (including one very gorgeous RSR Prototype ), I think I'm pretty much there now and will list this soon.

What's the views on deleting the OS battery box to aid airflow to a front oil cooler?

Great to see you are still of a free-mind about the spec of the car. The thread title is very apt still!

I have a 3.2 in my 73T with twin batteries. Never gets hot in the UK weather. It has a trombone cooler only.

I think overheating could be an issue when standing still rather than at speed and i doubt the removal of the box will aide the static cooling?

Just my 2 pen'th.
