Show us your... bicycle!

Post by Sam »

Since there seem to be a few enthusiasts of the skin tight legging on here I thought it would be nice to share a few snaps.

Sadly for the DDK ladies (or is that lady now Helen doesn't seem to be about much?) I don't have any of me togged up, so one of a bike will have to do.

To keep it a little bit topical I'll start with my quick(ish) bike, complete with its Porsche inspired livery :

Image

It's a Planet X carbon frame and fork, FSA compact 10 speed chainset (I can't get close to spinning out this set up, nevermind a man-size chainring) and SRAM Rival WiFli oily bits elsewhere. The wheels are Planet X's own aluminium jobs with aero spokes.

Things like a comfy saddle and double sided pedals mean it's not super duper light at about 7.7kg, but I like to ride it to the pub and to work on nice days so a bit of practicality is called for and it's carrying far less excess weight than me.

So I've showed you mine, let's see yours.

None of your new-fangled carbonetiques for my weekender, just a solid frame that doesn't
mind me parting company down a ditch once in a while... new 5" overstock telescopic forks
and a perinium-friendly bouncy seat post waiting for it's winter makeover

Ahh, well I hesitate to post this.. and just to be clear, I'm not really a cyclist but I do have an urban bike. It's Danish, made by Biomega and it's shaft drive! I'll get my coat....

Two alooominum Cannondales in my bicycle stable...

Old school for off road: 1996 Cannondale Caad5 M500. Only original parts left are the frame, cranks and stem! Super light and super twitchy :)

Image

New school for the road: 2011 Caad10 Cannondale Dura Ace. Also super light and super twitchy! :)

Yep Gary, it's a light-ish frame but the shaft is heavy-ish, although I don't notice that on the move. It's very smooth, clean and virtually maintenance free. I think it's beautifully designed with nice details and well made. But it's a steady commuter not a racer, which is me all over

Not a pic of mine, but I'm too lazy to go outside and take a photo of my Aluminium O... which was bought new by my brother and now resides with me.

Identical to this, though.

Have a look on the retrobike forum. I guarantee you'll waste hours there, but chances are you'll track down an Aluminium O frame there.

Here's my daily commute, a Cannondale Badboy Ultra (2008 model).

Image

I've had it just over 3 years, and it's now clocked up just shy of 7000 miles.
In that many miles it has needed 3 new pairs of pedals, 2 replacement chains, 1 new set of brakes (front and rear), 4 pairs of brake pads, 3 new sets of tyres, three bottle of chain oil, a strip down service every 6 months, and NO stops to put petrol in it.
Running costs total approximately £700, or 10 pence per mile.

Compare it to Porsche ownership if you dare.
At the wheel of early 911s in the past 3 years I've not done much more than the 7000 miles I have covered by bicycle.
In that many miles... Erm... yes: best stop pedalling that thought process any further

I'm trying to work out what well before getting to who

Looks like the steering wheel is pn the right with two sets of bars?

The drive train is complex but it looks like that's on the left with the long (yellow) con-rod thing to the actual crank

Leaving me thinking that someone rides this in a very very odd riding position :?:
