I can feel the heat already from the purists.....

I bought the car because it was solid and rust free. I never really liked the colour and it hasn't grown on me. Unlike Mr Pharmacist's car this is more Green Olive than Brown.

The paint was poor anyway - worst was the crazing on the boot lid:



I stripped most of the car apart from the bonnet and wings. Picked up by Porsche Reading last Wednesday...

I must say that I have been very impressed by the enthusiasm and service at Porsche Reading. I think they’re a bit bored of the 7 or 8 Carrera GT’s I was parked next to.

I know you know what it looks like but this car at Essen has always stuck in my mind as looking great.

Holy moly - Porsche Cars Reading doing it? I see big bills!!

Keep us updated- would be interesting to get a guide on what they charge for something like this compared to an indy or specialist?

Mitch: damn - that does look good. But that's what I have found with Olive - it looks great in sunlight - almost mustard yellow. But in flat light it just looks drab. I also find that it's a Marmite colour - 95% of people I meet hate it and 5% love it (and one of those, a designer, ran up to me and offered to buy it on the spot).

Andy: Honestly - I'm still not sure. I've looked at every picture on this site and Pelican and I keep coming back to Metallic Silver.

964RS: I think you would be very surprised! I'm not sure Porsche Reading will want me publicising their quote. I'll ask them tomorrow and post it if they're happy. I will say that I was quoted £2,000 by a local bodyshop for a respray if I stripped the car. You might be surprised how close PR came in. Basically they said they didn't do many pre-80's cars and were keen to do more. I'll keep you posted.

Cool. There are lots of cool bright colour period correct colours you could do it. Silver though???

It's your car though so do it how you want...just don't regret it

Olive all the way! It's the "in" colour now that The Bridge has been shown TV, with the star car being an Olive 912E... You'll get mobbed for autographs and mistaken for a socially inept Scandinavian female detective!

I must admit I'm one of the 5% who like Olive - it's similar to Sepia in that it's very rarely seen 'in its true light' on a computer screen & most people who've dismissed it are converted when they see a nice example in the flesh ... ask anyone who's seen Ron Vincent's lovely car.

However, I'm also a big advocate for painting the car whatever colour you like.

I'm not in the 5%. I've tried to like Olive but I can't. Mind you, I'm no fan of Silver so I'll get me coat and leave....

The work being done looks excellent though. It'll be like having a brand new car. Bet you can't wait.

I thought I wanted a silver Porsche and then I got one. I then didn't feel special enough so found a yellow one and that's because I couldn't find a Jade Green or Chartreuse one.
Love my yellow one now though and will keep it. Unless a Sepia one comes along. Or a Jade Green. Or a Chartreuse, Leaf Green or possibly Olive. I always want what I haven't got.
Apart form my g'friend - she's pretty neat (although not neat).

Btw, never knew OPCs were capable of handling that sort of work. Can't wait to see the results; it's looking super cool already.

I imagine that i havent loaded up the pic properly but I think that whatever this is looks amazing: mid ivory/ cloudy grey?
Its funny how the shape lends itself so well to teh full-on colours such as bloodorange and viper and yet also looks fabulous in subtle colours such as grey, light ivory,etc.

I have searched the world for an original colour olive car for many years and FINALLY found one in Austria just a couple of months ago. Nothing special, a 2.2T but I just wanted olive. However, the premium put on the car for the 'rare colour' was LARGE so I reluctantly had to pass.

I'm one of the 5% , obviously.
