(This post is from Tebay services on my way back up from Englandshire)

When we had looked over the engine numbers we decided to go back to the shell wondering why we had not taken a picture of the chassis number. Here it is. Brendan and I glanced at each other again!

Loving every moment of this, but if you'll pardon the seriousness of the occasion I can't help but wonder what was possibly going through the mind of the owner at this point....two middle aged gents in a shed, rummaging about, and smiling to each other....We're just good friends really... ..wish I'd been there....did you have to try hard and look uninterested....a performance worthy of an Oscar

Oscar performance? Yes, I think that would sum it up.

We had no idea at this point if the owner 'knew' and our questions were suitably vague and non-specific. We were just two guys looking to buy an old Porsche to 'do up'.

A lovely find! :)

My detective work wasn't exactly the work of Sherlock 8)

Interested if it the correct one for 68/69. Could you post a pic ?

Regards
Mike
Andrew From approx 69 model year onward the toolkit screwdriver became two drivers. Both marked '10000 volts'....
That is a one year only item which I am desperate for. It is suitable for model year 69 only.
Slim chance, but I do have other lids for swop if either of the above buyers are not actually looking for a 69 lid.

Regards
Mike
There's only one car I'm off to see and it's not new

A 69 E is a rare car. Can you share any details or a link to a resto thread I may have missed.
Is it complete? Lots of one year only parts on your 69E. Interested to hear how your car is progressing.
All the best

Regards
Mike

Hi Mike that is a 01 at the end.

For those who can make out the chassis number it is 119200001 and the engine number is 6290001.

Amazing barn find and a journey of discovery

Post by Bruce M »

Would you need to act? To a Porsche fan it is a unique and fantastically important find. However...

M&B : oh..oh..oooh. (bouncing up & down and trading high 5s)
Owner: so it's good one then.
M&B : yes,yes,yes...
Owner: so it's the top of range fast one then?
M&B : no, that's the 'S', this is an 'E'
Owner: so what is so special then?
M&B : well,,,, this is 1st mid range car with an extra few inches in front of the rear wheel!! (another high 5)
Owner: right....(rolling eyes).... So do you want to buy it? I need the space for a new tractor.

You lucky boys :D
What a find, a memory to savour for the rest of your days.

What I find interesting / surprising is that this car, the first ever 911E, was RHD!

Wow that's so cool. So you now own the first RHD S and the very first E (read best 911) as well as one of those unloved RS things.

Amazing barn find and a journey of discovery

Ace.

For chassis number one to have engine number one is fantastic, for it to be RHD is a big surprise.

What was the original colour?
964 C2 Targa. 205 1.6 GTi. Testarossa. Fisher Fury Fireblade. Motorhome. Motorbikes. Scooters. Pushbikes. Threadbare Saucony Peregrines. Dog. Human relations and friends. 97.5%-built house.

We were as you can imaging 'excited'. Now, you know how these Scottish guys are at closing a deal ( read my first post about the previous attempts).
The conversation eventually got round to asking if the car was for sale.

' Sure, let me know what you want to offer'
' How much do you want'?
'That's for you to decide'?
'It's pretty rough'
'It's all complete'
'It will take a lot of work'
'It will be worth a lot when finished'
'How much were you thinking'?
'Make me an offer'
'Let's think about it'

So can you believe it,

So we parted company not knowing if the car was really for sale, wondering if the owner knew any history (we dare not ask in case we gave the game away that this may turn out to be a special car) and we wanted to do some research.
