Looks fantastic, well done. Love the attention to detail. I assume you will not be doing any fab work in there before the wedding for fear of ruining the finish and getting everything generally covered in crap? Or is it storage only, and you have a separate working area?

I have been doing my own ‘side project’ this summer using sleepers as uprights for a building in the garden that is bearing a living roof. I have the hernia to prove it, so share your pain!

Nice work on the sleeper cutting jig, it's tough trying to keep your cuts straight on that stuff.

I like the steel conduit too, I used the same in my cabin although used Conlok to avoid threading the bar.

Sadly yes, I should have got a machine in, but stupidly chose to dig everything by hand. The sleepers are set vertically and with a 7.5 degree pitch for drainage, so as well as being square I had to set them at exactly the right height; 70kgs in, then out, then in, then out Chuckle Brothers style from 80cm deep holes. It is fair to say my body told me I am not 30 any more.

I did find that a borrowed big chop saw would cut the sleepers, but only after I had done 10 of them. Your solution is much nicer!

Not seen that before Nige - interesting stuff. I had to work it all out for myself. My pipe bender doesn't have degrees marked on it - but when doing the swan necks I marked a line to bend to for the main bend.

OK probably time for a bit of an update…..

Garage doors got painted which was nice


And I made some sturdy brackets to hold the electric door opening rams



I got a couple of roller cabinets from SDS to fit amongst the built in cabinets I was going to make


They aren’t great quality but not bad either. However as they are going to be in a run of units I wanted the handle to be down the side instead of along one edge

I wanted the roller cabinets in first because I wanted to build the run of cabinets around them.

One of my Christmas presents was this square which has been absolutely fantastic for setting up the frames for welding

I’ve made all the frames out of 50x50 square tube, which weighed the camper down when I picked it all up

It takes a while to get the frames all made up - bit of a ball-ache really



I wanted adjustable feet for them all so I could get them just right. I eventually hit upon the idea of using ice-hockey pucks (there are a few YouTube vids out there on this - not my idea)



And eventually you end up with this

After a while I’d got a load of them done.



The plan is to build wooden cabinets (drawers or cupboards) within the frames.

Around this time (spring 2022) my focus started to change. My middle daughter was getting married at the end of May and was planning on having the wedding reception in my barn.

I therefore had to focus on things other than the cabinets.

First was the low door at the end of the room.

It looked a real mess so first I had a builder who tidied it up a bit and made the floor frame safer.

Then I needed a door. A short, wide door. I also wanted it to be a sliding door, as any sort of opener would block the little corridor it would open into.

I didn’t have a short wide door, but I did have the original two garage doors. Both were tall and too narrow

I started by chopping the sides off one of them



And then I needed to shorten the one I was gong to use. When I shortened them it took the horizontal support away - so I cut that down to fit

It was starting to come together now



And then I added the sides on (with domino joints)


Leading to the short wide door I wanted
