Slight update - nothing major

Tidied the front of those shelves/drawers - cut some thin strips of oak and glued them on and then oiled them

Image

And then chucked a bit of ambiance at the walls

Ok now Tapatalk won’t let me upload images

Trust me, it’s gorra lorra ambiance

Ah it worked finally!!

Image

I should add - the new speaker on the wall - the power cable isn't like that any more - I've run some fresh 25mm conduit up the wall to a new socket just next to the speaker

Now starting on the corner unit - I wanted a carousel for that.

So I picked up a cheap Chinese bender (DDK QOTY contender?)

Image
Turns out it is *really* hard to control the amount of bend.

I ended up with something close though.

After a lot of messing about on Sunday I ended up with these (Tapatalk is dicking me about again)

Basically I need something that can act as a carousel but which can be unbolted and dismantled if I need to

Let’s try again

Image
Weirdly it worked

So the middle ‘half-shafts’ bolt onto the central column (that rotates on a bush)

After doing all this and putting it together the front edges didn’t line up with the unit so a bit of extra cutting and shutting was required.

Currently it sits in there nicely and spins easily. Now need to add second shelf above it, then add doors onto the front and finally plywood shelves to sit into the frame. This part has been a bit of a ball-arch TBH but the end is in sight

How many staff are you planning to employ once this workshop is up and running?

The work environment looks favourable.

I'm going to try and keep the employees below 20 - summat manageable

My Shadow foam has arrived but can't seem to upload a pic through tapatalk. The shadowfoam will be my treat over Christmas - starting to put all my tools into the drawers - all in shadowfoam.

Also got started on the shadow foam.

Eldest daughter enjoyed helping (I say helping, she did that first drawer on her own - did a cracking job)

Image

Then did a couple more drawers. Looking good so far

Image

Only 22 more drawers to go!

I don’t have that many tools (I think) but I’m going to put the shadow foam in all of them and then when I’m ready I can cut more tools in

Proper insta ready
You need a lot of drawer space to spread out tools with shadow foam but to be that organised must be great.

Well done getting your daughter involved. Mine is in the moody teen phase with plenty of rolling eyes, so isn’t much help currently .

Thanks Bruce. I did 'cull' a lot of tools before deciding which ones made it to the drawer and to be honest the ones I've left behind are knackered and never getting used anyway. I'm aiming to do hammers, screwdrivers, and measuring drawers. Dunno after that

Thanks Chris

The new space is great to work in but the lift is the biggest game changer - being able to move the car up and down at will so you can just get in the right position is fantastic.

Hoping it will let me do more on the car in the months and years to come

Oh and you can never have too many power sockets

Just a bit of an update

I’ve carried on gradually cutting out shadow-foam drawers throughout the year. It’s a bit of a ball-ache to do but feels great once you’ve done one.

Predominantly this year I’ve been actually using the shed/barn for its intended purpose, which has been nice - I’ve recently posted about my handbrake refurbishment on my hot rod thread. The shed has been a great place to work in.

In late October we had some bad rain round our way. We’ve got flood gates at the front of our house but our neighbors don’t - so they had a river running through their land which then came onto ours

This is the outside of the big barn and tannery(workshop)
Image

Inside the tannery/workshop it wasn’t looking good
Image
Image

I had two things to be majorly grateful for

First it didn’t make it into the house at all

And secondly it didn’t make it into the Uber-shed - these are the steps leading up from the tannery to the shed
Image

The only water that came into the shed was at the bottom of the pots for the scissor lift
Image

To get the water out of the tannery I ordered a powerful pump but it took a few days to arrive and by the time it did the water had gone - leaving a 2-3 inch thick coating of mud throughout. Same for all the outbuildings.

Whilst it was great that it didn’t come into the house, I then had 10 days of solid work pressure washing every outbuildings and then having to scoop up the lake that was created and ladle it into bigger buckets. We also filled a massive skip.

Looking on the brightside it meant I got rid of loads of crap that had just been sitting around. But it was a shedload of work (see what I did there).

That’s all done now. We had a smaller flood a couple of weeks ago in the tannery but this time it came up through the floor - the water table is still unusually high so it didn’t take much. This time though the water was clean and drained away quickly leaving no mess.

A couple of months ago Jason put me onto a local garage that was selling up. I picked up a few bits and bobs including this little beauty

Image

I’ve got this in a small ante-chamber between the Uber-shed and the tannery. The plan is to use it to serve air tools in the shed and also run a sandblaster in the tannery.

Most recently I started on the air tool part.

OK so after installing the lift controls in one panel I had this space next to it. As you can see I’d got the small compressor in there (that works with the scissor lift and disengages the safety blocks when you want to lower it.

I’d always thought the space left would be ideal for a spring-loaded air reel. I had one at my old house and it was great, but when I looked at it carefully I could see the rubber was perished, so I ordered a new one.

I wanted a panel to go over the hole and just have the hose coming out the a hole with rollers on it.

However I knew if it was a flat panel it would be too flexible, so I needed to build some bracing behind it

In the picture below you can see the chunky bracket I made for the reel itself, and the strengthening bars for the rollers
