In the 4 years since I first posted this thread I have probably covered around 50 or 60 wheels, chiefly all sorts of 4 spoke early 911/912 together with many 3 and 4 spoke Carreras and a fair few Momo and Nardi types, but one of my more recent has to get the award for the worse condition
I put this up to show even this kind of wheel can be saved...but if you do have stitching that has come apart get it repaired soon, don't let the leather dry and pull apart, and certainly don't resort to this...!
An earlier owner to the current one had deceided his 912 needed some rectification, probably because the leather stitching had come apart, so he/she deceided to leave the leather around the spokes, cut away the remainder and wrap black adhesive electrical tape around the rim
How long it was there for is not known, but suffice it to say it damaged the wheel forever....the tension on the tape leaving dozens of serrated saw tooth profiles around the majority of the rim
the only way to restore this was using filler which I built up in a particular sequence and series of layers, to replicate the original profile
it varies in depth all over but has enough flex to replicate the old rubber profile, and by virtue of being firmly encased in new leather maintains its integrity....and returns it to good as new...

for a new single leather cover its £220, for a double wrap (an inner layer of leather under the visible leather) plus a layer of felt add a further £140

postage is in addition to that, usually a further £35, recorded delivery within the UK, or they can be collected dropped off in either Battersea or Guildford

I can vouch for the quality of JP’s work - excellent stuff.
Top tip though - when sending him the wheel don’t slash off the original covering with a Stanley knife - makes his job harder

Jonathan covered the wheel of one of my cars 7 or 8 years ago and I'm still enjoying his craftmanship every time I take the car out. It's wonderful to be part of the worldwide Porsche community and to get in touch with so many remarkable people. Jonathan, you're one of the guys that make our hobby to become into a passion!
