I've got a new car
My 68 car left me a few weeks back and my 914 is gearboxless at present, so I've had to get something else for the winter commute.
It's :
Something RHD
Something matching number
Something built by Porsche in 1973
Something that left the factory with a 210bhp 2.7 MFI motor
Something that left the factory with an alumnium framed ducktail
That's right, you've guessed it, it's...
...a Targa with impact bumpers.
It's probably about as close as I'll ever get to owning an RS

Exactly, so one day mine will be the only one left and therefore more rare and more valuable than some stupid metal roofed thing with no back seats.

A targa? For the winter?
Do you know something about the weather we don't?
Enjoy

Re: I've got a new car
That must be a very rare (unique ?) car Sam - I've never heard of an impact bumper car that came from the Factory with an aluminium-framed ducktail ...

Really? That must be a very rare (unique ?) car Sam - I've never heard of an impact bumper car that came from the Factory with an aluminium-framed ducktail ...
Well, it's aluminium framed and it certainly looks to have had a ducktail from new. I suppose there is every chance that it was fitted down the line...
Any identifiers to look for so as to ascertain its originality?
I take it the IB ducktails were all GRP?

Originally discussed whilst drunk at Revival, bought whilst similarly drunk in Germany after watching you enjoy the sunshine and deciding I needed a Targa.
I still haven't actually seen it.

Re: I've got a new car
A '74 2.7 Euro Carrera would have had a steel-framed ducktail - as would the majority of 2.7 RS models - but they differed slightly to the RS version.Sam @ PS Autoart wrote: Really?

An original aluminium-framed ducktail is a valuable part ...

Re: I've got a new car
Measure the height of the grille opening and post a pic of the grille recess lip. That will give you an idea of originality and year of manufacture.
Then you have to let us know if you have large or small hands cos you have to do something with your pinkie to see if your duck is original
Regards
Mike

It looks nice to me. I am sure you will enjoy it.

Re: I've got a new car
Well, the lid is original, but it's steel
The chap who has the car blamed it on someone else in the workshop putting a magnet on the wrong bit to test it.
I shan't be rich after all
It's going to stay bone stock, perhaps some spacers to get those skinny little 7s to fill the rear arches, but otherwise it just needs the roll hoop putting to stainless (it's black), get the bonnet to fit properly, refurb the wheels and paint the car and it's ready to go.
I'm quite excited.
