Year of Manufacture

Post by DarthMJH »

I wondered if anyone can help. I am possibly going to acquire a 1973 Porsche 911. However I am thinking about the road tax and whether it would be free, i.e. if it was made before Jan 1973. The chassis number of the vehicle is 911 3 501361 which according to Porsche Club GB is 1973, however I was reading elsewhere this VIN was manufactured in 1972.

Would you happen to know if the car was manufactured in 1972 but registered in 1973?

911specs.com

1972
VIN No Body Model Engine No Engine CC HP / RPM Production
9113500001-9113501875 Coupe 911T 911/57 2341 130 @ 5600 1875

Porscheclubgb.com

E. Chassis numbers, ten digits (MY 1973 to 1975)
11 3 3 1 0001 ... 9999
Vehicle ! ! ! !
11 = 911 Model year ! ! Serial number
3 = 1973 Engine !
4 = 1974 1 = 911 TE Bodywork
5 = 1975 2 = 911 E 0 = Coupé
3 = 911 S 1 = Targa
5 = 911 TV
6 = 911 SC 2.7

Thanks

The last Euro 911T (2.4 on Zeniths) Coupe built in Dec '72 was 911 350 0834 &, although they didn't always get completed directly in sequence, I would be 99% certain that this car wasn't manufactured until 1973.

Although free road tax is a nice bonus, the condition/price of the car is much more important.

Interesting....

The CoA of my car states the Production Completion Date as 01/12/1972 (9113200575) whereas the V5 has the year of manufacture as 1973, being previously registered abroad.

Does anyone know if I could revisit this with DVLA and get the year of manufacture changed? Free RFL would be very welcome :)

Cheers,
Darren

If you have a CoA from Porsche stating that the date of manufacture was Dec '72, then a visit to your local DVLA should ensure that the taxation class gets changed to 'Historic' resulting in free road tax.

Thanks Andy I appreciate the reply.

I was just checking DVLA website as my vehicle was registered in 1973 - the rule stipulates that it's manufacture and not date of registration that's the deciding factor so I should be ok :)

Now all I do is get the car on the road before they change things!

Cheers,
Darren
