Some low life *** decided he would like my Audi last night...

Of course you need a key to steal a car so they broke in and ransacked the place trying to find it.

However it wasn't parked outside my house.... So oddly enough they couldn't find the key.


So now I have neighbours down the road coming back to a trashed house, police and scene of crime all over it and an car that's now been abandoned elsewhere as I don't want it anywhere near my house (or anyone else's).

To say I'm feeling guilty for what has happened doesn't quite cover it.

It's going back as soon as I can negotiate it with my company.

Arseholes.

The one saving grace is of course that had they entered the right house last night we would have been in. Which doesn't bear too much thinking about.

I can do without a fast car if it means I can sleep at night. A diesel Golf is sounding like fine transport right now.

Seems to be a lot of that going on at the moment.

...and that news story is exactly why I'm so glad they got the wrong house.

These neighbours are like surrogate parents! Really decent people.

When these cars cost me less for six months all in than the road tax would for the year it's difficult not to take up the option! Still that's going to change now. I did have an S3 on order for March, but I've now cancelled that. Maybe a Skoda Yeti is more my thing...

Gary I wouldn't worry what car you have, I don't think it makes you more or less a target, just wrong time and wrong place (on more than one level)

Just buy them a nice gift and make sure you don't park your car outside their house ever again. You've had flash cars in the past why would now be any different?

Definitely wrong time and place! This is the first S4 I've had, other cars have looked flash without actually being so! Two other S4s have been taken from colleagues at work by the same method in the past year, they were both in the house at the time though...

I may buy them a new patio door glass...

I'm sure it'll be insured, just pay their excess and whatever their insurance premium goes up by if you feel their pain that bad.

Reminds me of the time we had a neighbour come to our door and asked if we'd seen the lady across the the road recently as she was supposed to be looking after somebody elses cat. We hadn't so we popped over to check through the windows, couldn't see anything but we could see a few days worth of letters piled up at the door and the milk hadn't been taken in for about a day. The wife feared the worse as she usually saw the said lady about her daily business. So the wife called the local police explaining the situation and the feared that the lady may be in trouble/dead in her own home.

Police turned out pretty sharpish, knocked on the door a few times, nothing. So went to back to the van and bought out their door rammer and proceeded to smash the front door in. Was a nice door too, recently hand made to fit in with the listed buildings order and convservation regs.

20 minutes later the lady arrived after visiting her daughter from the previous evening, just as the Policeman was nailing up a plywood board to secure it.

Luckily Alison didn't give the Police our details or even mentioned that she had called them to anyone. Think she still feels the guilt now sometimes.

Basically sh*t happens and you can't do anything about it. Just keep calm and carry on in your flash S4. Surprised you haven't got an RS4 anyway!

Horrible story, Gary. Comes to something when, even if you've locked your car up, you can't feel safe sitting in your own home for fear of some scumbag breaking in to get the key.

Just read this... I am really sorry to hear that this happened.

Its like you can't have anything nice because someone will vandalise it or steal it!

that really sucks, i hope everything gets sorted out quickly for you and your neighbours, and that the police catch up with the scummy little buggers

All OK now, this was just Dyno resurrecting an old post!

The S4 went back within about 3 weeks of this incident, and was replaced with a Golf Gti, which is going back next week for a TT, such is my turn over of VW group product!

My neighbours have been perfect about it. I wish I could be that understanding!

...and maybe not surprisingly the Police haven't caught anyone.
