Why did Porsche vent the trans coupling cover?

I believe the vents were the air inlet for the Webasto heater fitted cars, although you could also have the vented cover with a cardboard backing or solid metal cover for cars without Webasto.

There was evidence of a petrol heater in the smugglers box, long gone since I owned the car though.

I’ve got a layer of carpet under the grille, otherwise it’s just a noise path from the engine bay.

Mine has a bitumenised board trapped below the grille. It's a bit cracked but I'm tempted to heat it up to melt and re-set the bitumen.

It’s the same but different

Carpets now finished (apart from the bit behind the passenger seat and the boot!)

And of course the cocomats to cover most of it up again!

Seats are almost vintage now!

Over the last couple of evenings I’ve fitted new bumper to wing rubbers, some utterly dreadful bumper caps, adjusted the handbrake, nipped up a front wheel bearing, fitted the cover under the steering rack and finally got the washer pump working.

Only jobs left are getting the hazard light switch to work the lights on both sides of the car, and maybe fit (and make…) some sunvisors.

So it felt like a good time to give it the first wash

I’ve never been into ‘detailing’ or even washing cars properly, but with paint this good I have to change my ways!

Followed it up with a thick layer of creamy wax and went for a drive through a cloud of large splatty insects

Now with added sill trims.




I was planning to tape these on, but there’s no way that would work with this shape. So drilling into fresh paint and new metal and some self tappers had to be done…
Covered everything in thick grease, but part of me died inside each time I drilled a hole.

Does all that 'snow stuff' make a difference? Is the glass coated as a result?

Secondly, I had to drill fresh paint in 1989 to fix my alum trim under the rear side windows, the ones you stuck on. When I removed them 28 years later, no rust, and the underside of my wings are not protected like yours are.

Sill covers look very nice.
Hope to see it again next Wednesday?

Theoretically the foam loosens the dirt so when you start wiping it down you don’t scratch it.

Seems to work so I’m sticking with it!

It’s been a long journey and sometimes you forget to take a moment to appreciate what has occurred.

Driving back last night through the sunset (even on the glamorous M6) with my son was one of those moments to remind me why I did it. Not so people can comment on panel gaps, but to create memories:)
