A few updates:

I put the car up on stands a few weeks back with the intention to rebuild the calipers ready to be pressed into service as the daily drive in a couple of weeks. However things never quite work out like that!

Having found a 5p sized hole in the floor under the smugglers box I thought I should sort it out “whilst it’s jacked up’…

Further investigation found this:

The thing was none of this was visible inside until I ripped the bitumen mat off the bulkhead with a heat gun. Water had been seeping up through from the smugglers box as the drain pipe for the heater had been leaking, unknown to me! From the state of it I reckon it’s been like it for 15+ years…

So out with the angle grinder and a couple of evenings later I had this:

Not quite found the full extent in these pictures, but getting close.

Some further weight saving measures on the way! Don’t need this bit!

First repair going in down the side of tunnel:

I needed to put a decent bit of form into the panel if it was going to look anything like an original. Whilst I was never going to hide the fact it's been repaired, I didn't want it to look like a bodge. So I made up this rough tool to put a swage in where the heater drain exits. My reference photo on the wall is Mike’s RSR

I’m of to Classicar with my front callipers tomorrow as despite new seals and a good clean I couldn’t get them to bleed up as they keep sucking air back in.

I had this once... turned out I had swapped LHS to RHS and so the bleed nipple was not at the top (Maserati not 911) School boy error that I'm sure you won't have made Gary.

Nice repair, Gary: looks like the welder is earning it's keep even better than you expected. That man-maths is paying off

. I'm amazed how well the vice managed to press the metal. Mine has got a quick release which jumps if you really wang it up tight: one day I'll get round to sorting it, or even just lock it off as I never use that function anyway.

Tim: if it makes you feel better, Jonathan and I spent ages trying to get a firm pedal. Same problem in the end, which I'm afraid I can't take credit for spotting
