Fuel Filters

Post by abm914 »

Hi all, as my engine is out it gives me a chance to renew all the fuel lines and also the filter. Currently fitted is a large square one (technical term) which I reckon is part number 311-133511C. Unfortunately I've not had any luck sourcing a replacement.

I can get type 4 bus ones:
http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_act_shop.p ... try_GB.htm

Is the only difference beetween the two the size of the fitting on one side?

Or does anyone know where you can get the original ones from?
Thanks

The early 70-74 fuel filter 311.133.511.D has long been discontinued by Porsche.

A few years ago Bosch were still making them, but have a feeling they have stopped making them now.

Have you tyred Roger Bray, who list it as 311.133.511.C

The early filters are 7mm to 7mm

The later 7mm to 11mm

This company in Germany list them. http://www.sportwagen-eckert.de/ersatz. ... rtikel=320

Have noticed the Americans fit round Mahle fillers in place of the square one, and rest them on the fuel filter holder, instead of sliding it on to the holder.

The Bosch fuel filter for 70-74 model year 914's has changed it's part number over the years.

The last one I bought was marked as F1053 as the main number and the long number 0 450 901 053

Before that as 71024 with the same long number 0 450 901 053

and back in the 1980's as 71012 with the long number 0 450 901 003

Found this on German e-bay

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... p2992.m753

Fram also make a square filter with 7mm to 7mm ends, part number G3741

Thanks Kev & Mr Pharmacist.

Kev - would there be an issue with using the VW heritage item - listed as part 133-133-511?

It has a 11mm outlet,

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO REDUCE IT TO 7mm?

Hi Ad/Kev

The last time I was at Tatton Park VW bash I bought a couple of these filters off a fella selling genuine Bosch stuff. The Bosch part number is 71024 / 0450901053-896 and it was made in Portugal. He seemed to think (then) they were still available?? The date code on the box is 2003. Is it worth trying a Bosch stockist to see if there are any still about? If so buy the lot!!

Is that an approved method

What are you going to use as the reducer?

My concern is, this will increase the likely hood of a fuel leak, which could have dire consequences. :blob6:

Would someone like Demon tweeks do an inline filter that would do the job?

Ad, are you sticking with fuel injection?

(PS we were lucky on the international - parked up motor at my Dad's - tyre flat as pancake next day)
