Great work and a lovely project. I'm really interested in wiring 2 CDI boxes for twin spark . Are the boxes the same as my 75 one and how would I wire them ( I'm only a mech electrics are scary)? andy

Andy,boxes are 6 pin cdi's, don't know if yours is 6 or 3 pin. As for wiring them up,you should speak to Mike Bainbridge.

First attempt at starting engine turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. After it wouldn't start,Mike had more or less worked out the problem,and when he removed the cam covers,it was just as he thought.The R/H cam was timed up wrong and 1/2 a turn out, the R/H cam has the No'4 intake valve opening and the distributor is firing the No' 4 cylinder, the dots on the end of the cams are not together (in this position the engine is in ;TDC, L/h cam with the dot Down the R/h cam should have the dot down), the R/H cam needs a 1/2 turn to get things correct.
Now Mikes back from the Spa trip,he'll be setting things up properly,and hopefully engine will be running the way it should. Mike reckons when the guy set the R/H cam.he must have went for a cup of tea ,or something else distracted him before he set up the L/h cam. So all in all,not to much of a problem.

Bit of a set back with engine,will update once it's sorted.
In the meantime new carbon fibre hood fitted, (thanks for help John), just needs a couple of adjustments to fit perfectly.
Don't know whether to paint it,or leave it the way it is,the finish is top quality, (I know there wasn't carbon fibre in the early seventies, but it just looks so good)

Just discovered,the company that manufactures these,has gone into liquidation.Pity,the quality and finish is first class.

Been a while since last post.
Had distributer tested,and problem was found with the advance curve in the mid/low range of the RPM,will have to send it back to the guy in Germany,who built it. Hopefully he will get it sorted. Guy who I bought engine from has found a nos Bosch cap,to replace this one-
Once all the parts are back on engine,it will be going down to Neil Bainbridges,to be set up on his dyno.
As this is likely to take some time,Mike has very generously offered to install this engine meantime-


Mike tells me "I just put it together with parts I had lying around",but typically,this is Mike being his usual modest self.I tried to get him to tell me the build spec,but all he would say was it was similar to the engine I had in the car originally,but may have a wee bit more power.So thanks to Mike I should be able to use the car this spring/summer.

Looks pretty similar to the original,but has the benefit of being able to refill, after use.

I have an original bottle just restored with correct label etc.......... Been for sale on the early S reg for a while, no takers yet.

Fuel tank is now fitted,+ brake fluid bottles fixed in position,ready to be piped in.


Mikes engine also fitted,so will hopefully be using the car shortly.




Waiting on distributer coming back from Germany,and hopefully getting rsr spec engine up and running soon.
