924 Carrera GT

924 Carrera GT
At the risk of being blackballed off the forum finally got round to taking some pictures of the CGT over the weekend. This is the car
I bought late last year as a driver, the Martini RSR when it’s done won’t exactly be the most road friendly car around!
This is the ex Lord Mexborough car which after many years in his collection had ended up in the Sir Anthony Bamford Collection
where I found it. It has been obviously well looked after with a fully stamped service book and a very complete history file with all
the bills.
Made in 1981 the 924 Carrera GT is a very rare car, only 75 RHD cars made along with the 405 LHD to homologate the GTR version
for Le Mans. Being it’s 30th anniversary this year it means the GTR is eligible for Classic Le Mans, should be some on the grid next
year.
Having done just 41000 miles it was complete with original handbook, tool roll, jack and sunroof panel cover. It just needed a few
things doing like fabricating a new exhaust as they are NLA, a new fuel accumulator as it was leaking, and a new matrix in the oil
cooler. Finished it off with a service and a new windscreen as the old one was de-laminating.
Really pleased with it, just jump in and off you go. Deceptively fast in that you can forget how quick you are going, it’s very quiet
and comfortable with electric windows and mirrors and good long legged driving position. The 49/51 weight distribution and 210 hp
with a weight of 1180 kg’s means it’s great fun, taking into account the turbo lag, average brakes and heavy steering at low speed
of course! Easily as quick as my old 2.7 RSL rep but the difference here is the 30 mpg......
Gearbox has the dogleg first and 911 gear sets, and this one has the optional limited slip diff.
The rear 3 quarter picture shows off it’s best attribute for me, those big rear arches over the 8” fuchs. The interior shot shows that
early 80’s iconic pinstripe look, while the engine bay’s dominated by the intercooler with the big pipe disappearing down to the KKK
turbo which runs at .75 turbo boost. The drivers view is dominated by the intercooler scoop on the bonnet, just to remind you what’s
under there.
Water-cooled I know but I hope you like it, I might try and sneak it on a couple of DDK outings if I’m allowed, but promise I’ll park
it away from the all those 911’s!

Very, very nice Mike. Always thought the best colour is black in the Carrera GT (IMHO). You have it looking top notch.

Car looks fantastic. Is that your idea of a 'beater' you can use without too much regard?

Good to see the pictures at last - looks lovely (what else would we expect ?).
I'll be interested to see the car in person & grabbing a ride - I haven't been in one since I owned mine back in '92.
One thing - from memory I think the rear Fuchs wheels are 9".

Mike,
I was lucky enough to also own a black CGT which I sold to buy a 924 CGTS (which I should NEVER have sold ). The CGT is a highly underrated car and in my view, a better bet than an Integrale - much more useable.
Enjoy it and hope to see it at a Fairmile soon - I might even be in a kettle as well
