Lime green 1973 2.8 RSR Evocation

This monstrous early 911 began life as a 1972 model year RHD 911 T, built in late 1971 and registered in the UK from new.

It has been built into the dramatic machine you see here by a well-known 911 specialist and has covered under 2000 miles since the build was completed.

The specification is immense and the level of detail remarkable. Everything has been refurbished or renewed, every detail considered and near every mechanical part enhanced. To build this car from scratch today would cost an enormous amount of money.

The spec includes :

279bhp

Fuelling

Custom foam-filled aluminium fuel tank with central filler
Luggage compartment mounted fuel filter
High-flow low-pressure pump
RSR spec high-pressure mechanical fuel pump

Gearbox

915 5 speed box
Limited slip differential

The car has clearly been built with great attention to detail and to be a strong performer on the track, but has also been designed to remain tractable, reliable and manageable for road use. The 3.5 litre motor idles calmly and smoothly on period style slide throttle injection, and pulls without protestation from low revs in any gear. It produces a conservative 279bhp, enough to move this lightweight machine on at an incredible rate, but a relatively low, unstressed output for such a capacity. The gearbox changes lightly and smoothly and the clutch is easy to operate, the brakes are powerful yet easy to moderate. This really is a very quick, very easy to drive early car.

But it sounds ferocious and goes astonishingly. There is nothing like the unsilenced exhaust note and open induction roar of an RSR on slide-throttles and megaphones. It rips through the air in a terrifying blare of mechanical noise and visual drama.

It is currently set for road use, the noise of the exhaust system would limit its entry to circuits. But it could easily be fitted with a silencer and air filters to bring the noise down and make it a formidable trackday car. The weight ought to be around 900-950kg, giving a GT3-demolishing power to weight ratio knocking on the door of 300bhp/tonne. Its lightness and traction would also make it a very impressive sprint / hillclimb car. The later engine cases and chassis modifications would limit its eligibility to high-end historic competition, but it would be excellent for historic tours and rallies.

The car will be sold with a new MoT and is exempt from road fund licence. As with all of our cars, it can be supplied as it stands or modified to a customer’s specific requirements, with a warranty or without.
