Tyres

Post by Ian Gunney »

On a practical note - what tyres are you guys running on your tractors?

At the moment, am trying to source front and rear tyres from the same manufacturer which is proving to be a tad tricky!

My standard currently has 4.50-16 tyres on the front and 9.5-28 tyres on the back. Vredstein do 11.2-28 (which I understand is the equivalent to what is currently fitted) but the smallest fronts being 5.50-16, which may be too big.

Any thoughts / recommendations for good agricultural suppliers??

cheers

dont know what the ag. guys think of these, but we've started using solideal tyres at work, and they're pretty much standard on small construction equipment as the budget offering. i've done some pretty in depth testing on these (18's front, 26's, 28's rear) and found them to be very good against mich. and goodyear equivalents..

uk company, pretty good range and decent pricing.. if you need a contact try andrew walters

ps. i believe goodyear have been brought out (ag. and industrial only i think) by titan who have produced some really crap tyres in the past.. i'd steer clear once the current stock runs out

pps.. the above (re: solideal) only really applies if you're not restoring a tractor to be "perfect" and if you're looking for decent tyres for a tractor that gets used :)

I know that they're a long way from most of you, but try my friends down the road, Geoffrey Harris Tyres - http://www.tyresliskeard.co.uk/page/agricultural_tyres

They are experts in their field  and are into their vintage tractors and Land Rover trialling.

Ask for Geoffrey or Mike.

Cheers! :drunken:

I used a Company called Atkinson Vos

http://www.unimogs.co.uk/index.asp?gcli ... 4QodTxSMjQ

and found their prices to be very keen and the delivery service was amazing! - Ordered at 3.00pm and arrived at 11.00am the next day.. (tyre price included delivery too).

For my Junior 108, Continental AS fronts were about £38 each plus vat and the Mitas ( East European Continental) rears were about £78 each plus vat. These were the original fitment tyres in the original sizes.

Apparently raw rubber prices have increased by 65% so far this year so expect some big price increases in both tractor and car tyres soon.

Cheers everyone

just had a look at the Atkinson Vos site - they list Continentals for both front and rears - so fingers crossed they are available!

Chris - Atkinson Vos were able to supply exactly what I wanted (Continentals) at a price less than I was expecting - and Simon was very pleasant to deal with too - cheers for the recommendation.
