Romantic Hotels in or near Stuttgart?

Post by Peter »

OK here's the challenge....

If I can find a chic/boutique hotel in or near Stuttgart for a stopover en route to the Italian lakes, I have amazingly been given the green light to plan a trip taking in the Porsche Museum (well actually the trip would be our honeymoon and this would be our first night   )

Any ideas?

In fact, we're only just starting the planning, so any suggestions for a hotel in the Italian lakes would be good as well.

Hi Peter,

We honeymooned in Stressa in June, staying at Villa Aminta which, while achingly expensive is wonderfully romantic :-) http://www.villa-aminta.it/en/home.php if you don't eat in the hotel you'll save a bundle and there are ten top cheap local restaurants in the village a mile down the road - all more authentic

I've stayed at the Adler Hotel near Zuffenhausen - wouldn't call it romantic but then again I've never heard of a romantic hotel in Germany  however the Adler is very hospitable with a wonderful cellar bar and a top restaurant.

Congratulations and let us know where you decide to stay :-)

that's got to be the Villa D'Este then!

A friend stayed there and on a tip from someone else, booked the cheapest room and then contacted them to say he was celebrating his wedding anniversary! He got a very nice upgrade and some nice touches (chapers on arrival etc).

They are fully booked by the looks of it till march though.

Congrats on your impending betrothal too!

Congratulations Peter!

We stayed in Pallanza this summer at Hotel Belvedere.

http://www.pallanzahotels.com/

Double room with two beds for the kids, wacking great balcony looking straight onto the lake. The location is so great I don't think you could go far wrong with any hotel on Lake Maggiore.

Boats arrive at the jetty outside so access to Stresa, the Islands, even Switzerland is easy. Helpful staff, great location, good price.

Highly recommended hotel, and brilliant area. Wife has family who live in Pallanza so got the insiders view on what to see. 8)

Congratulations!

Can't help with Stuttgart I'm afraid, I've only stayed in an anonymous business hotel. But, depending on your route from there down to Italy this Hotel won't be very far off piste and is very special, if you like contemporary architecture. Built around a natural hot springs and designed by Peter Zumthor, one of the world's finest Architects. Well, it's one of my favourite places anyway...

PS And it goes without saying that the mountain pass driving around there is legendary!

Thanks for the suggestions guys...and the good wishes.

A bit of planning to do, so I'll be looking at all the suggestions.

I'm still a little shocked Claire suggested we take the Porsche. After cheekily suggesting we go via Reims, I figured I had nothing to lose by adding a stopover in Stuttgart  I just have to deliver the goods on the rest of the trip now
