911 2.2E restoration

Post by johnM »

Well after spending the last 4 years or so talking about sorting the body work on my car I have finally started to not only talk the talk but walk the walk.

The car is a 1970 2.2E that was built for the Swiss market, I have ordered a COA, we shall see what that says but the car has S suspension and brakes and trim. I was not sure what the original colour was but from ripping it apart it looks as if it was light ivory. There is very little evidence of the original colour.

It seemed strange driving the car for the last time, it work great, the best its ever ran. Anyway it went into my garage and looked like

and only a couple of days later it looks a little sad.

There are some previous poor repairs to the floors which will be all redone.

But nothing terrible yet.

The plan is to strip it down to a bare shell remove all the stone guard/underseal then send it off for media blasting. Best get going.

Kind Regards

Good luck with it. Clm 2012, you can share my car if not finished :)
But I reckon it'll be long finished by then.

Not much, I think I will put a front oil cooler in and Mike Bainbridge is building me a short ratio gearbox with a LSD, but thats about it... I think.

You've done the running gear and engine bits haven't you anyway so its just body repairs, paint and trim. Should be a nice little project, it's certainly doesn't look like a rot box.

Yep I have been through most mechanical bits so hopefully I shouldnt find too much work in them. I will have to sort the wiring loom and odd bits and bobs but its mainly the shell. It needs 2 rear quarters some minor work to the front wings and sills not sure how many, once its been media blasted we will know how much work is required.

Exiting Stuff John, I`ve often dreamed of doing this... But it takes a brave man to brandish the wormy can opener. Still, all looks fine. Will you paint the original colour come what may ? Do you have a favorite colour you always fancied ? :)

The bullet being bitten :)

It's a day I'm trying to put off for as long as possible! 8)

Good luck with this John, and I'd say spray it the colour you want, it's your car after all!

Mine was Viper Green, and I still went for silver, and don't regret it :drunken:

I know the car looked kind of ok but I had to distract the MOT man last time, I am not sure I could have been successful a second time
