The 912 has failed the MOT with a split gaiter. Can anyone advise if this is an easy job to replace, or is a garage job. Also where can I source a replacement (new or in very good condition).

Cheers

Hi

You can buy them here in France so I assume you can get them in the usual places in UK, try Design 911, they are not expensive E12,00 each. I think its the same part for 911 & 912 '65-'89 901.347.191.02. Replacement need removal of tie rod end, mark its position before removal so tracking stays OK

Barry

Thanks for that. Did you need to use a ball joint splitter on the track rod end??

Hi Gil

Yes you have to use a tie rod removal tool. If I remember I bought mine from Halfords many years ago as I was tired of using a crow bar and hitting the steering arm. The tool is a fork and flat hinged together with a bolt to apply pressure, a small tap then breaks the seal. I guess the whole job should not be more than half an hour assuming no sticky nuts etc. ( worth a WD40 spray the day before ). Best of luck.
