Hi all
I still haven't had the time to install the dooberry that I need to download in car footage to Youtube yet, but some kind soul (albeit battling camera shake caused by the conditions) posted this up following last weekend's round of the Speed Championship.
It takes a few seconds to load, but hopefully is worthwhile! Speed through the trap before the Esses towards the top is 81mph - giving away 2/3mph to the class winner (Tim Barber) who recorded a class record of 34.32 seconds. My time was 35.82 (1.5 seconds is a country mile in a short hillclimb!) but was some 4 seconds quicker than I ever managed with the 4 cylinder motor. Slowly getting to grips with things, so maybe next year I can beat up some 911s!!
Anyway - hope it's of interest. Also check out Paul Howell's RSR - it is awesome!

Wayne the link didn't seem to work but searched your name on YouTube and got the clip. Looks very cool and sounds great. Good luck with the rest of the season.

Hi Wayne,
looking (and sounding) good! How did you sort the over fueling issue that Bob discovered on the Dyno day?
Best regards
Rob

Sounds like a flat 6 should!
Good top Esse exit; impressed by that.

Thanks all - it is finally getting there and I am ironing out all of the issues I have developed over the years! The good lady says that was inevitable, as most of the car is now new and therefore can't keep failing....
Rob - Funny story about that, been meaning to get in touch and let you know. After the disappointing session with 170bhp at only 5k due to a misfire, I put on the spare fuel pressure regulator I had in the garage, and hey presto the car felt like it had a new engine (ignition curve and correct fuelling - wow!). So I booked in for a return session at Bob's, and got 184bhp! (Last year was 212bhp, which I was expecting to match given nothing I had done would improve outright power, as the ignition had been set previously at max advance. Dejected, I went home and tried to start it to get it off the trailer and it wouldn't fire. When it did, it was on 5 cylinders and sounded like a steam engine....
After a call to Barrie, I removed the rockers covers and he had correctly diagnosed a loose rocker (well, by loose it was no longer attached - the gudgeon pin had worked itself out completely on No 3 exhaust). So to this day, I do not know if;
a) Last year's power (and all previous power tests with my old 4 cylinder at the same place) were over stated
b) The rocker failure resulted in poor performance on 3 whilst on the rolling road, hence the reduced output
c) Or I genuinely only have 184bhp, in which case I need to get saving for a top end rebuild and take some brave pills, because the car is fast enough already!
Anyway, the main thing is it is reliable and quick, so finally with a bit of reliability I can work on the most important bit - my driving! So I am going to leave as is, and probably book it in again with Bob at the beginning of next season to retest again to see which of the above is true!
Cheers

Hi Wayne,
thats amazing - the engine sounded sweet as a proverbial nut, i would have though a rocker issue would have made some noise! Best of luck - it certainly looked quick for 184bhp on the footage.

Hi Rob
Yes, it's strange. The car was fine first time on the rolling road, then did 20 or so miles on the public roads before going back on the trailer to Bob's. It was fine on the rollers, and drove round the yard onto the trailer ok. The rocker must have been just hanging on, and the vibration on the trailer on the return journey was enough for it to work loose.
There is another explanation re the power. I bought the engine as a 188bhp interim model SC engine (confirmed by the engine #), but is supposed to have the high compression B&Ps and heads of the 204bhp lump. Maybe it isn't 204bhp after all, and if it is 188bhp internals then the power is about spot on! Who knows!
Cheers
